Education Specialist – Bicultural Practicesin ECE (K3)

Kidsfirst Kindergartens is Canterbury Westland Kindergarten Association, Mo ngaTamariki me nga Whanau o Waitaha me taiPoutini, the largest provider of early childhood education in the South Island. We are currently looking for a motivated and professional individual to join our team as Education Specialist – Bicultural Practices in ECE, in afull time permanentcapacity. We would consider a job share for this position, however applicants for a job share must apply jointly and will be considered for joint suitability.
This position will start in term 1 2018. Starting date to be negotiated with successful candidate(s).
As an Education Specialist, you will be a member of the Education Service Team based in our Association Head Office. You will be responsible for;
- Delivery of active and positive support for EST, Head Teachers and teachers consistent with the principles of Te Tiriti o Waitangi, tikanga o teAo Māori, Ngāi Tahutanga and te reo Māori.
- Assisting Kidsfirst services teachers to develop and meet goals that address the teaching and learning of tamariki Māori so that they can succeed as Māori within our services.
- To build depth and understanding of bicultural practice within Kidsfirst services as reflected in the Areas of Practice and Quality Evaluation Indicators
- Develop and deliver professional learning opportunities to Kidsfirst teachers
To be successful in this role, you will possess:
- Knowledge of tikanga o teAo Māori, Ngāi Tahutangaand the principles of Te Tiriti o Waitangi.
- The ability to share knowledge and support teachers in providing a bicultural environment in mainstream early childhood services.
- Experience in establishing and sustaining effective working relationships with:
- Iwi groups
- Tamariki
- Colleagues
- Parents and whanau
- Strong socio-cultural philosophy and evidence of implementing this in practice.
- Commitment to participate in on-going professional learning and self-evaluation and critical reflection.
- Demonstrated organisational, time management and leadership skills.
- Tertiary (degree) qualification relevant to the role is required and a relevant post graduate qualification would be highly desirable
- Travel around the wider Kidsfirst network will be required.
