To celebrate National Tree Week, WildInishowen held a Tree planting session on Saturday 5th March. Tree Week has been organised by the Tree Council of Ireland since 1985. Each year a number of events are held around the country, from tree planting to poetry readings, all aimed at encouraging people to celebrate the positive effects which trees have on both our environment and scenery.

25 volunteers turned up on the day and Fort Dunree would like to thank Wild Inishowen, Buncrana Tidy Towns, and also to all the Volunteers that came along. Thanks also to the boys and girls who came to represent the local primary school Desertegney N. S. A very special word of thanks goes to Wild Inishowen Member Colm Grant who organized the whole event with the help of George McDermott . Colm kindly donated all the Trees himself, his generousity was second to none.

Alfie and Hughie raise €3,300 for Cancer Care West

Two Inishowen men, Alfie McGovern and Hughie Duffy recently staged a number of events in order to raise funds for Cancer Care West. The men are recipients of the wonderful service provided by the InisAoibhinn facility in Galway. All of Cancer Care West’s services are provided at no cost to patients and their families and the charity relies heavily on voluntary fundraising and donations to meet the cost of providing these services.

Hughie Duffy raised funds through a number of events at both the Clonmany and Carn shows.

The second annual Alfie’s cycle and walk took place on 11th October. On a beautiful sunny morning 100 cyclists and over 100 walkers took to the road from Fort Dunree and helped make it a fantastic event. Alfie would like to thank Fort Dunree, North Pole Cycling Club, Saddle Rock Cycling Club, Border Bikes and all others who participated and kindly gave such generous sponsorship and prizes.
