Education Cruising in the Computer Lab

1. Go to the site www.careercruising.com and login:
Username: Ottawa
Password: 26190

2. Select “Learn about Careers” from the left-side toolbar.

3. Click on by Index. Find the career that you explored last week during the career cruising activity.

4. Click on Education in the left-side column.

5. Scroll down to the section “Related College & University Programs”. Choose a related college & university program that sounds interesting to you, and click on it. This will bring up a list of all the colleges and/or universities in Canada that offer the program.

6. Now, select from the list one of the colleges or universities that offers that program. It can be one that you have heard of, or one that you have not heard of. This will bring up some basic information about the college or university.

7. Click on the link for the college or university’s website. Another box should pop up.

8. Get some facts on the university. You will need to look around the university’s website, and if you cannot find it you can look at another source (like wikipedia). The facts you are to find:

-year the university was founded

-the full-time enrolment

-the “nick-name” of the school teams (for example, Glebe Gryphons)

8. Your first mission is to obtain more information about the academic program that you have chosen. Browse around the website to find more information about your specific program. Each website is different so you will need to investigate. You could use the “Search” tool, you could look under “Academics” or “Faculties”. If you are having trouble finding information about your program, ask the teacher for assistance.

Spend some time reading about the program you have chosen. Browse, explore!
