Education Course Advice

Course / Inflatable Rescue Boat Driver
General / The IRB Driver (IRBD) course is the second level of powercraft training in surf lifesaving. The IRBD is a key role in the patrol team. On successful completion, it is expected that you will join the team to provide service on patrols and for water safety
Date starting / Saturday 8 August, 2015
Prerequisites / ·  Currently financial club member
·  Currently proficient in Bronze Medallion
·  Currently proficient as an IRB Crewperson
·  Hold the Recreational Skipper’s Ticket
·  Minimum age 17 years
·  Parental approval if under 18 years of age
Induction / 8 August, 2015 @ 9am in the club lounge
Theory sessions / Tuesday Nights – 7pm to 9pm
Practical sessions / Saturdays and Sundays – 10am to 2pm each day
Register / Contact the club office and request to be added to the course list – not later than Wednesday 22 July, 2015 at 2pm
Cost / $100.00 per person; please pay before the course commences
Learning materials / Powercraft Manual – included in course cost
IRB Driver Workbook – included in course cost
What to bring / ·  Personal beach gear; include warm clothing
·  A wet suit is recommended
·  Booties are recommended
·  Sunscreen
·  Drinks – water; hot drink (especially if the weather is cold)
·  Snacks as preferred
Course duration / Anticipate eight weeks; this will depend on weather and sea conditions and rate of development of the required skills
Assessment / ·  IRBD Workbook is completed to the required standard
·  Preliminary assessment – theory and practical
·  Theory final assessment
·  Practical skills final assessment

Expectations / ·  Be actively involved – work as a team
·  Be punctual for each session
·  Remaining for the whole of each session
·  Ask questions if unsure of anything
·  Advise one of the Trainers if you cannot attend any session
Questions / The first theory session includes a course overview and Induction. This session is an appropriate forum to clarify any queries you may have. Parents of participants are welcome to attend this session.
