EdmondFFA Member Wins State FFA Agricultural Policy Speech Contest

STILLWATER, Okla. — Emily Kennedy of the EdmondFFA Chapterwon first place in the agricultural policy division of the State FFA Speech Contest during the 2018Oklahoma FFA Leadership Development Events at Oklahoma State University April 27.

The agricultural policy division allows FFA members to give a six- to eight-minute prepared speech about topics such as domestic farm issues, international trade, rural economic development, politics, animal rights, law, subsidies and price supports.

Krista Carroll of Tishomingo FFA, Cade Jenlink of Timberlake FFA, Parker Terrill of Prague FFA and Pace Mittelstaedt of Amber-PocassetFFAplaced second through fifth, respectively.

The state agricultural policy division is sponsored by Dr. L.D. Barker – Professional Animal Health, and Bart and Karalyn Fischer. SandRidge Energyprovides a $1,000 state winner scholarship.

The OSU College of Agricultural Sciences and Natural Resources hosts the Oklahoma FFA Leadership Development Events each April. Trophies and medals are sponsored by Farm Credit Associations of Oklahoma.

FFA is an integral part of the Agricultural Education division in the Oklahoma Department of Career and Technology Education system. With nearly 27,000 members and 360 chapters, the Oklahoma FFA Association is the fourth-largest state FFA association.
