Editor – Business, Marketing & Career

Are you a business education instructor or business/marketing professional with an eye for detail and accuracy of written content? If so, you could be the candidate we are seeking. Goodheart-Willcox, a publisher of secondary and post-secondary print and digital textbook programs, is looking for an experienced textbook editor.The ideal candidate has five or more years of experience developing manuscripts into logically organized, well-written, accurate, and up-to-date textbooks or business content knowledge through teaching or as a business professional. At G-Wa successful Editor must be able to work cooperatively with authors and in-house colleagues, perform standard developmental editing tasks in the subject areas of Business, Marketing & Career, and oversee the work of freelance and junior staff editors as needed.

DAILY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Support junior team members as subject matter expert in business education
  • Edit manuscript for print and digital texts and supplements.
  • Work with authors in all stages of manuscript development and production.
  • Work with graphic artists, proofreaders, and other production staff to develop compelling cover and interior designs and to ensure accurate, appealing layout of pages.
  • Work with marketing department to develop promotional pieces, such as catalogs, brochures, and e-mail blasts.
  • Present product information to sales staff at sales conferences and other sales and customer service trainings.
  • Assist with exhibits at meetings and conventions, as needed.
  • Stay informed about relevant nationwide trends by attending appropriate professional meetings and reading newsletters and journals.
  • Keep informed about the strengths and weaknesses of competing products.

EXPERIENCE

  • Five or more years of developmental editing, preferably in educational publishing at either the secondary or post-secondary levels; or instructing business classes; or business management experience.

EDUCATION

Bachelor’s degree required.
