Edinburgh Talented Athlete Support Scheme – Athletics – 2014 to 2015

Edinburgh Leisure and City of Edinburgh Council are committed to supporting our promising athletes of today and our stars of tomorrow.

Edinburgh Talented Athlete Support Scheme(formerly known as PAS) provides talented athletes, including those with additional support needs, with subsidised access to sporting facilities. The Edinburgh Talented Athlete Support Schemeis designed to support athletes achieve their aspirations.

Selection Process for Athletics:

Athletes must be nominated through the National Governing Body of sport and the number of athletes selected to benefit from the programme is limited by the financial resources available to fund the scheme. Up to 45 athletes can be nominated to Edinburgh Leisure by scottishathletics.

Athletes are therefore invited to apply, through scottishathletics, to be considered for theEdinburgh Talented Athlete Support Scheme.

Places will be allocated in consultation with the Edinburgh Athletics Partnership (Capital Athletics) and the final decision will be made by scottishathletics.

Applications close on Thursday 6th March 2014. No late applications will be accepted.

The 45 successful athletes will receive a letter and pass from Edinburgh Leisure before the 1st April 2014.

Passes are valid for one year starting on 1stApril and in October the usageof cards will be reviewed and any un-used cards will be reallocated after discussion with the athlete.

Note – Please note that the local authorities in East Lothian, Midlothian, Scottish Borders and West Lothian all operate schemes to support athletes. Further details can be found by contacting the Sports Development Department at each Local Authority.

Qualification Criteria:

There are two levels of qualification:

Tier One

  • sportscotland Scottish Institute of Sport selected athletes who are either resident in Edinburgh or a member of an Edinburgh-based National Governing Body affiliated sports club
  • These athletes will be written to directly by the Institute of Sport.

Tier Two

  1. Athletes must be resident in Edinburgh or a member of an Edinburgh-based National Governing Body affiliated sports club.
  1. Require to have been in theUnder 15, Under 17, Under 20, Under 23 or Senior Age Groups during 2013.

3.Athletes will be selected based on:

their ranking in the Power of Ten based on their 2013 seasonand the level achieved against the AAA’s Standards

Note One –If the level of applicant is greater than the number of passes available higher priority will be given to athletes who are both resident in Edinburgh and a first claim member of a Club in Edinburgh

Note Two – The Age Group refers to athletes in that age group during the Summer Track and Field 2013 and Winter Road/Cross Country 2013 – 2014

Note Three – Off Track athletes are selected based on results achieved in Scottish National and International Competition

Note Four – If the level of applicant is greater than the number of passes available higher priority will be given to athletes in the Under 17 age groups and upwards in 2013.
