Parent/Guardian’s Guide to Homebound

The Homebound Department is looking forward to working with you and your family. Please feel free to communicate any questions or concerns to us. It is our goal to help your child be successful. In order for this experience to be successful, some homebound Policies are outlined below.

Homebound Rules/Procedures

·  Teacher Responsibilities

*Homebound Teacher

- Provide at least one hour of instruction for each school day missed.

- Obtain assignments from classroom teacher(s), provide instruction, and then return completed assignments

- Complete timesheet

* Classroom teacher

- Provide assignments to homebound teacher

- Grade completed assignments

- Provide reports of student’s progress and grades to the Homebound Teacher

·  Student/Parent/Guardian’s Responsibilities

*Organization and management of materials

*Homebound services provided at a mutually agreeable location with adult supervision (preferably a parent/guardian)

*Assignment deadlines will be set by the Homebound Teacher. Deadlines must be met to avoid receiving zeros on assignments.

* Teachers will often leave messages or voicemails. The courtesy of a return call is expected by the end of the next school day.

NOTE: Some subjects are difficult to complete on homebound. Foreign language, PE, science courses with labs, cosmetology, etc. In certain cases, these classes may have to be dropped (resulting in loss of credit).

Attendance Requirements

·  Three consecutive days missed or five total days may result in termination from the program or referral to the truancy officer

·  Failure to meet a scheduled homebound session will count as an absence

·  A medical excuse must be provided if absence is due to a medical issue. Over ten total absences could result in denial of credit

Environment

·  Interruptions and breaks must be kept to a minimum

·  Instruction should take place in a comfortable, quiet environment (no TV, radio, cell phones)

·  Due to allergies, please advise teacher if animals are present or someone in the house smokes

Transportation

·  Due to liability responsibility, teachers may not transport students

·  It may be necessary at times for the parent/guardian to arrange transportation to a study group

Edgefield School District Code of Conduct

·  Homebound is an extension of school; therefore, all rules listed in the Code of conduct must be followed. This includes: appropriate dress, no smoking, or drugs, cell phone usage, attitude, and respect for the teacher.

·  Violations may result in termination of homebound Services.
