POSITION TITLE: Education Technician III

GENERAL DESCRIPTION:

Provides leadership in the performance of a combination of instructional and behavioral management tasks in classroom to assist teaching staff.

SUPERVISION RECEIVED:

Lead teacher or as designated by Manager.

PERFORMANCE EXPECTATIONS:

Leadership as an Ed Tech III is defined as operating under the indirect supervision of the certified teacher for short term, large group instruction and individual or small group instruction. This may occur within the special purpose school or in a community based activity or program.

  1. Assists the teacher in providing direct instruction when appropriate.
  2. Plans, prepares, and develops various teaching aids such as bibliographies, charts and graphs.
  3. Presents subject matter to students utilizing a variety of methods and techniques.
  4. Administers and grades examinations and other student work.
  5. Assists students, individually or in groups, with lesson assignments to present or reinforce learning concepts.
  6. Participates in team meetings with case managers, lead teacher, and other staff to discuss student progress.
  7. Participates in supervision of students including field trips and other community based, experiential education.
  8. Functions as a teacher in the absence of the classroom teacher, if certified as a substitute teacher.
  9. Assists in maintaining the school and classroom in a clean, safe and hygienic environment.
  10. Provides feedback to foster or birth parents or briefs other staff members before and after shift to ensure communication of students’ emotional states and progress.
  11. Provides supportive counseling to clients if an incident occurs during shift.
  12. Provide verbal de-escalation, crisis interventions or physical restraints, as needed and prepares related reports.
  13. Participates in the development and implementation of behavior plans.
  14. Provides a safe and nurturing environment for students during all activities.
  15. Completes other duties that may be assigned to support the educational environment.
  16. Ensures that the rights of clients and staff member are protected in accordance with State and Federal regulations.
  17. Provides safe transportation of residents in an insured and reliable vehicle.
  18. Ensures knowledge of fire evacuation plans and conducts drills.

  1. Follows all Agency policies and procedures. Demonstrates a professional attitude, sound judgment and continuity in interactions with both clients and community. Represents the Agency to the community in a professional manner.
  2. Has a thorough understanding of Agency standards of care and abuse and neglect reporting.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

(includes knowledge, skills and abilities required)

Education and/or Experience:

Bachelor's degree from a four year college or university and one year related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Language Skills:

Ability to read, analyze, and interpret professional journals, manuals. Ability to write reports, professional correspondence and plans. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from clients, staff members and supervisors.

Mathematical Skills:

Understanding of mathematical concepts and the ability to apply and teach these concepts in classroom situations.

Reasoning Ability:

Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical information in an educational setting and to enable others to learn and to deal with several abstract and concrete variables.

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations:

A valid teaching certificate endorsed in one or more of the instructional levels and subject areas appropriate to the program is preferred. Must be certified in CPR, safety, first aid and Mandt verbal and physical de-escalation techniques.

Other Skills and Abilities:

Competence in the operation of computers and peripheral equipment common in the contemporary classroom.

Physical and Environmental Conditions and Requirements:

The conditions and requirements described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of the job.

Workplace Environment: The employee may occasionally be exposed to environmental pollutants (e.g., pet dander, smoke), outdoor weather, moderate to loud noise, crowded office conditions with little privacy. Certain work assignments may include the need to work awake overnights or sleep overnights in residential facilities. The employee will occasionally be required to work overtime, evenings, weekends, or unpredictable schedules. The employee must be able to work regular part-time or full-time hours as scheduled.

Physical Requirements: The employee must be physically able to stand; walk; sit; use hands to finger, handle or feel; climb stairs or balance; stoop, kneel or crouch; crawl; pull and push; carry and grasp; reach up to shoulder high; bend and twist at the waist; walk on uneven ground; lift up to 25 pounds; and write/document outcomes of meetings in a timely manner. Occasionally, the employee will be required to sit and ride in a vehicle; transport self to another office or service area at some distance with individual trips of up to 2 hours and an average of 200 or more miles of driving per month; safely drive to transport clients with appropriate coordination of hands, eyes, and feet in response to visual stimuli; Position Title:

and drive in varying weather conditions. The employee must be able and prepared to apply physical force and agility as required to perform client physical restraints.

Communication Requirements: The employee must be able to talk on the phone and in person in conversations that may involve individuals or small groups; hear, write, and read. Vision requirements include close, distance, and peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.

Mental Requirements: The employee must be able to get along with others; meet deadlines and productivity standards, complete paperwork on time; respond to varying situations with tact and diplomacy and deal with stressful, hostile, or irrational persons, whether due to physical or mental disability, drugs, socio-economic differences, or other factors; react calmly and effectively in emergency situations; and remain flexible in changing circumstances and situations.

JOB PERFORMANCE EVALUATION:

The employee must satisfactorily complete a 6 month probationary period. At that time, the employee may be granted regular status or probation may be continued for up to an additional six months. Subsequent job performance evaluations will occur on an annual basis.
