EDCI 5120 Best Practices Cumulative project (Parts I-IV)

The final project is a summative assessment of this course in which you will demonstrate your knowledge and expertise in three instructional strategies: two methods that were previously studied in our text and one method that integrates technology that you will need to research on your own because it goes “beyond the text”. These can include the methods you researched in your annotated bibliography; however, all references must be in addition to the project you completed on July 14. What I hope this will encourage is either EXTENSIVE research on a few strategies OR additional research on multiple strategies.

This final project is made up of four sections:

I.  Annotated references (four for each instructional strategy) in the format used earlier this semester. Your references are expanded from our earlier assignment and can include teacher resources, interactive websites, and research documents. Annotations should be approximately 75-150 words and include short summary of how it could be used (i.e., planning for unit or motivational activity to introduce topic). Use the reference sheet provided for our earlier annotated bibliography for formatting. (24 points: 2 points for each reference)

II.  Develop a plan for a Study Team at your school: Develop a plan to form a study team at your school and disseminate the three research-based instructional strategies that you identified in part I. Besides defining your role on the study team, provide details on the logistics such a time, location, and length of meeting; target audience, motivation (food, professional development credits, stipends, etc.); materials; and necessary support from administration and staff. Lastly, describe how you will evaluate your study team or measure your success as a meeting facilitator. (10 points: 2 pts-defining your role; 1 pt-logistics; 1 pt-target audience and members of team; 1 pt-motivation; 2 pts-materials; 1 pt support from administration and staff; and 2 pts-evaluation plan for study team or your facilitation).

III.  Application of Instructional Strategies: Create a PowerPoint presentation, website, or other technology-based method to share the research-based recommendations for application into the classroom with the study team. When sharing the research and best practices of instructional strategies, pay particular attention to the application and effect to students with exceptional learning needs—non-native speakers of English, students with learning difficulties, as well as different learning styles. Explain what the research says about the use of these strategies for exceptional students and how you might modify the strategy to meet their learning styles. (30 points: 8 pts-presentation is clear/informative to team; 8 pts-strategies sufficiently described; 7 pts-presentation is esthetically pleasing/appealing to audience; and 7pts-how methods can address learning needs/styles of students.

IV.  Sharing with groups: In our last week, you will be divided into groups and required to present (electronically of course J) your project. More details will be posted later (11 points)
