Goal - Leverage and partner with community stakeholders to grow the economic wealth of our region by creating joint economic development strategies to coordinate future land use planning, infrastructure investment, service delivery, development incentives and marketing efforts for the entire area around Port Columbus.
Status – The Committee met Friday, May 30th for a tour of the area around the airport and to review plans developed by the City in 2007 focused on development around the airport.
Discussion points included:
· Need a catalogue of available sites
· Need for a business association for businesses in and around the airport
· Any airport-based marketing materials developed from a business investment perspective? This related to all three impacted communities (Columbus, Gahanna and Whitehall).
· Any retention and expansion calls on businesses in and around the airport being made?
· What business opportunities are unique to being proximate to the airport?
Next meeting agenda items include:
· A catalogue of sites
· A presentation on business growth incentives available for businesses in and around the airport
· Data on passenger growth at the airport
· 5th Ave businesses – who is located there?
· Review of marketing plans
The Economic Development Committee will be meeting every other week on Fridays from 11-12, beginning June 13th and ending September 19th at the CRAA.
