Job description

is the largest online neurosciences e-learning programme in the world with over 550 e-learning sessions, virtual patients, MCQ questions and webinars. Content is delivered through a Moodle platform. The target audience are trainee and consultant specialists, mostly in UK and Europe, including for example neurosurgeons, neurologists, neuropsychiatrists, neuropathologists and neuroanaesthetists.

ebrainis a project of The Joint Neurosciences Council, which is a UK registered charity, with representation from the UK neuroscience specialist societies and patient groups. The ebrain programme is led by a group of clinical leads. ebrainis a non-commercial, not for profit, enterprise with all clinicians giving their time and expertise for free.

ebrain was launched in Nov 2011 and there are now over 8000 users with several hundred pages accessed per day. Permission to award continuous professional development points has recently been granted by the Royal College of Physicians, a national mock examination is in its fifth year and content isused to support an MSc in University College, London.

The clinical leads for this project are:

In addition, ebrain has a contracted self-employed administrator who manages meetings, user and office support, a content editor who manages the content development and content updating and technical support who builds the e-learning content and manages the websites.

The role

ebrain has existed for nearly 8 years and is free to around 25,000 clinicians across Europe and many more than that worldwide, but it is under-utilised and not as widely known as it should be. This role has been created to promote ebrain to the full user group.

Promoting ebrain and managing ebrain publicity

Raising the profile of ebrain and managing the public image of ebrain. Promoting ebrain to the entire potential user group in UK, Europe and the rest of the world.

Promoting the Joint Neurosciences Council and managing publicity for JNC

Raising the profile of the Joint Neurosciences Council and managing the public image of JNC. This is only a small part of the role, ebrain will be the main focus.

Social Media

Taking responsibility for the running of social media including Twitter, Facebook and the two websites.

Written articles

In association with the clinical leads, production of scientific analysis, promotional articles and other written content in newsletters and medical publications.

Google analytics

ebrain uses google analytics. Monitoring user activity with monthly feedback to the steering group on progress.

Contact with specialty administrators

The successful candidate will need to be able to work very closely with the administrators of the professional medical associations, notably the European Neurologists, Society of British Neurosurgeons, Association of British Neurologists and others.

Conference call attendance

ebrain does not have an office, the role is designed to be flexible and working from home. Attendance at the approximately 30 minute weekly conference call on Wednesday at 8.00am (GMT) is required.

Other ebrain related activities

Working flexibly with other team members to promote, develop and enhance the ebrain project. This might include, for example, working with the administrator and content editor with regards to publicity anduser support. The ebrain team is small and cross cover of roles is expected.

Contractual terms

We are looking to contract this work from a self-employed individual. The Joint Neurosciences Council does not employ staff directly.

Fee to be negotiated, paid monthly

Payment terms (all prices incl. VAT)

  1. £27.50 per hour
  2. Expected to be about 6-8 hours work per week
  3. Max £10,000 per annum
  4. Reasonable travel costs and other expenses will be paid
