EASY TO FIND FREE VIDEOS AND EBOOKS
I have great news. As of 9-1-11 you all have easy access to a large amount to eBooks and free educational videos via INFOhio. All free eBooks and videos can now be found with a simple subject search on OPAC, our online catalog.
Here is how you go about getting this information.
- Come to the library and use one of the four kiosks dedicated to OPAC. The default page is step #7.
OR
- You may retrieve it anywhere you have internet access. Here is how:
- Go to INFOhio. (Remember, if you are doing this outside of school you will need the username and password. See the media specialist if you forget what they are. Because I am posting this in a public place, the username and password may not be listed on this sheet.)
- Click on the red “online catalog” button that looks like this.
- Click on the yellow “online catalog” button that looks like this.
- Pick our ITC’s (Information Tech Center) name. We are served by SWOCA. Click on that portion of the map.
- Next find Warren County Career center in the list of districts SWOCA serves and click.
- Click again on Warren County Career Center. (This pops down because most districts have multiple buildings from which to choose.)
- Finally you have come to our OPAC page. (Again, our kiosks in the media center default to this page so you never have to go through all these steps). It looks like this:
- Most people in our building will probably want to click on CAT, the green paw print, because the alternative, CAT Jr., uses pictures and a different kind of search that appeals to the younger users.
*NOTE: If you want to avoid all these steps in the future please bookmark this page or drag it to your toolbar for even easier access.
- Now you can do a search.
I did mine on war. I checked the two boxes in the center to also indicate I wanted it to search for videos or eBooks. That search found 318 titles in the media center. It also found 54 eBooks and 67 videos available for download. Materials found in the media center are on the left and INFOhio items are on the right. The eBooks will be older classics due to copyright restrictions; however, the videos are quite current and an excellence resource in the classroom.
- Click on the book or video you would like to download and there you have it. It is yours to use!
If you have any questions, I will do my best to answer them. I will have this posted on my Sharepoint page.
