Tick people off the register as they enter, get children to take shoes and socks off and sit down in a circle or on the mats.
Warm Up: 5 mins
Play a quick game to get heart rate up: Split the class into two teams. Scatter the class around the room. Give half of the children from each team a plastic or laminated egg. When you play some musicchildren who have no egg will try to tag member of the opposite team who have the egg. At this point the egg must be given to the tagger. Stop the music and count the eggs each team has and award the team that number of points. Repeat.
Explain to the children that today the YogaBugs have been invited on an Easter Egg hunt. We want it to be a sunny day so we’re going to start off with a round of Sun Salutations.
Adventure: 25 mins
As it’s a lovely sunny day we better get out of bed (crab) and stretch up – we better make a sandwich too as it’s going to be a long day! , it’s going to be a sunny day thanks to our sun salutations so we better put our sun hats on (neck stretches to make sure hat fits), put our sunglasses on (binoculars) and lots of sun cream (body drumming).
The Easter Egg hunt is starting at the park so we better get the bus (bumpy truck) and make sure we’re not late!
We’ve arrived, let’s go through the park gate (don’t forget to the close it behind us) and it’s very busy, everyone is holding baskets, getting ready to search for the golden eggs (mouse) and everyone is very excited (star jumps).
Ooh before we get going we better listen to the announcement from the organiser, he’s standing very tall over there (mountain) – oh no! The hunt is cancelled! Someone has stolen the 3 golden eggs! Don’t worry though – YogaBugs to the rescue! After all the adventures we’ve had I’m sure we can do this!
The eggs could be anywhere! Where should we start first? Let’s head down the path into the woods, there are lots of tall trees in the wood, we should climb one to get a better view (tree), if we climb a bit higher (tree on other leg) we can get a better view –Suddenly we come across a nest (bow), we take a closer look and there is the first missing egg! Misty, the magic bird has just landed on the branch next to us – “Hello, we’re YogaBugs and we’re searching for the missing eggs – can you help us?” the bird tells us she will help so we climb onto her back and she flies off – magic bird.
Wow! We can see so much from up here! Looking down I can see the whole of the park – there’s a lot to explore so we better get a move on – we ask Misty to drop us by the entrance to the park’s zoo and see if the animals know anything about the rest of the missing eggs!
The first animal we come across is zookeeper’s dog (downward dog) – he’s been on guard all day and hasn’t seen anything suspicious but thinks that the penguins might know as they have a good view from their pool. Gosh! Penguins walk in a very funny way don’t they? Let’s try and walk like them (penguin walking around the room). But they’ve been too busy eating fish all day and they haven’t seen anything. They wonder if the lions might know something as they are the kings of the zoo!
Let’s ask Daddy Lion first, he’s been out hunting and hasn’t seen anything, Mummy Lion has been busy too and can’t help but Baby lion says that he found something strange when he was playing in the garden – oh wonderful! It’s the second missing egg! We give the lion family big hugs (x3) to say thank you!
The zoo’s about to shut for the day so we quickly leave through the gate (not forgetting to shut it behind us). We better head for the boating lake to see if anyone can help there – quickly let’s get into a rowing boat (row on both sides) and use our binoculars to see what’s around. Ring ring! Oh it’s the phone (foot phone) – oh no, the lines gone dead, I hope they ring back (other foot) – it’s mother duck, she says meet her over by the reeds, she’s got something to show us. Get out of our boat and step across the muddy bank (crow walking) – mother duck is very excited to see us (baby bird) and tells us to look inside the shell she’s found (oyster) – wow! The third golden egg! Hurrah! (Monkey jumps).
We better get back to the start of the race and show everyone what we’ve found – they’ll be so pleased! Quickly let’s get on our bikes and cycle as fast as we can!
Everyone is so pleased to see us at last – we show them our eggs and they give us a big hug to say thank you! That’s not all though – the golden eggs are magical and as a reward for finding them we get a special wish – to fly home on a magic carpet!
When we get home we’ve had such an exciting day we’re so tired so we climb into bed, stretch forward (pizza) and pull our duvet up over our heads until we’re lying under our covers, close our eyes and think about the adventure we’ve had all day.
Relaxation and Visualisation: 5 mins
Encourage children to think about what a busy adventure they’ve had. Let’s make our bodies feel heavy and relaxed and think about how cool it was to fly up on the clouds on misty the magic bird and back down to earth again on a magic carpet. See if we can make this picture and feelings in our head and feel soft warm wind on our faces and the sun on our back as we float gently through our dream adventure.
Suggested follow on Games and Activities: 10 mins
Game: Place posture cards underneath eggs on each yoga mat, play music, children dance to the music and when it stops, they pick up the nearest egg and see which posture card is under it and do that posture. Repeat.
Activity: Eggs to colour in. Children could also take home a small chocolate egg as a treat!
