Earth Science 11 Mysteries of the Shallow and the Deep
Your assignment:
1) Watch the BBC documentary Planet Earth: Seas of Life and get a feeling for the various forms of life that exist in our oceans.
2) Your job is to create a pamphlet or story book for a grade 5 student that describes TWO creatures that live in the oceans: one from each of the ocean zones: the benthic and pelagic. Here are some websites to get you started:

3) Do research for your booklet/pamphlet. Summarize the following into the “NOTE SHEETS” to hand in with your booklet:
a) Detailed picture labeling the parts of the creature
b) A detailed description of the ocean zone it lives in
c) Interesting facts about the creature; this should include
- The habitat it lives in
- The food that it eats
- special hunting/foraging activities or behaviours
- special adaptations that allow the creature to survive in it’s habitat
- other interesting features – you choose
4) Create your booklet/pamphlet. Be sure to include
- Lots of colourful drawings, diagrams and/or pictures.
- Remember, these are grade 5 students and you need to use small easy to understand words for them to understand. Therefore, use your OWN words to write your descriptions
5) You must use a minimum of three sources and at least one of them must be a book.
6) Hand in
- a correct bibliography
- all Note Sheets
- your completed pamphlet/booklet
