ROUND TOWER GRAVEYARD: INSCRIPTIONS
by Dr. Patrick Mulligan and Theo McMahon
extracted from the Clogher Record, 1984
cut off date for records is 1900.
In this issue of Clogher Record we present the headstone inscriptions from Clones (The Round Tower and Abbey Graveyards), Co. Monaghan and St. Tierney’s R.C. Graveyard, Roslea, Co. Fermanagh. The parish of Roslea was cut-off from the medieval parish of Clones, shortly before 1800 (see CR, 1983, p.227). It was around this time that the graveyard was opened in Roslea and began to be used by families who had previously buried their dead at Clones. Much has been written about the antiquities of the Clones graveyards but this is the first time that the inscriptions have been fully recorded.
