Technical Expertise Cadre

The National Airspace System (NAS) is evolving into Next Generation (NextGen) technology by integrating new systems and services with legacy systems. FAA Order 6000.30D establishes maintenance policy for the NAS and defines the role of Technical Operations Services as integrating, managing, maintainingand operating the NAS infrastructure.

EASTmembers will be selected from across Technical Operations to include management and employees.

The Office of Safety and Operations Support, AJW-1, is requesting nominees as representatives for Technical Operations, from the Service Areas, providing technical expertise in the following disciplines and areas:

  • Automation
  • Surveillance
  • Environmental System
  • Navigation
  • Communication
  • Operations Control Centers (OCC)
  • Large Terminal Radar Approach Control (TRACON) ServiceOperationsCenter (SOC)
  • Air Route Traffic Control Center (ARTCC) SOC

EAST shall:

Ensure systems developed and deployed for use in the NAS are designed and tested for maintainability, supportability, sustainability, and oversight.

Collaborate with Program Offices.

Review and provide feedback to program documentation.

Tenure will be two (2) years. Technical experts will receive training regarding their roles and responsibilities.

Technical experts will receive tasking from the Safety and Operations Support, NAS Integration and Support Group (NISG), AJW-13. Technical experts will devote approximately 10% of their timeto EAST duties while located at their home facility. NISG will coordinate with the cadre members supervisor on a continuous basis regarding participation requirements and workload requirements. NISG will coordinate with, and be the Technical Operations focal for the various Program Offices.
