Newsletter January 2009

The Committee would like to take this opportunity to wish you all a happy and successful New Year.

Subscription rates remain unchanged.

Should any member suffer REAL financial hardship, which would mean the difference between rejoining the club, or not, please contact the membership secretary who may be able to offer some assistance.

The lakes have all fished well in the last year, and the Committee has been delighted to receive regular compliments from members. We in turn will continue to work hard on your behalf to maintain and improve the quality of our lakes. We currently have a full membership, and a healthy waiting list.

On the 10th December a work party was carried out at Wallasea.

The aggregate age of the six members working was 400 years.

Do the maths!! This is a situation that cannot carry on for much longer. We urgently need younger blood to help with the manual work.

Our lakes are the envy of other clubs help keep them so. Please contact the Fishery Officer Neil Claydon, or the Secretary Rick Gibbinson with personal details and availability.

Suggestions regarding fish welfare were made at the AGM from the floor, namely maximum line strengths the compulsory use of fish care liquids/gels and barbless hooks.

The Committee is reluctant to introduce more rules on this subject but naturally supports the very best treatment of out precious fish.

Please keep the welfare of our fish uppermost in your minds.

Do not fish in impossible situations i.e. in the middle of reeds or lilies.

We support the use of fish care products when appropriate.

The retention of fish is not allowed on our lakes under any circumstances, other than the following occasions…

  1. Official club competitions (including knock out)
  2. Approved fish removal or transfer

3. Short term retention of a specimen fish while camera equipment is set up.

In order to standardise club regulations, the use of braided main line is banned on all waters.

Members are reminded that leaving rods unattended will result in suspension of your membership at the very least.

We have been let down regarding new carp stocks for Middlemead and Loftmans, alternative solutions are being investigated.

Anybody wishing to be placed on the waiting list for Middlemead membership should write to. N Claydon

From Membership Secretary

I would like to bring to the attention of the members the following procedure. If you have a family member or friend who wants to join the clubPLEASE !!! do not ask for an application form, these are only issued to prospective members when the committee agree to their membership. Until then prospective members are held on a waiting list, in numerical/ date order. To get someone onto the list they should send a brief letter to the Membership Sec this should include full name, full contact details, Date of birth, and the name of a current member who is prepared to vouch for their character. A letter of receipt will be forwarded within two weeks, if this is not received you should contact the Mem Sec by phone to further the request.

Thanks

Tony Atkins
