During the Kindergarten Year, We Recommend That You:

q  Talk to your child every day and review assignments together.

q  Talk to your child’s teacher every grading period—this can be on the telephone, e-mail or in person.

q  Visit your child’s school – volunteer if possible.

q  Attend your schools Open House and join PTO

q  Meet all the teachers who work with your child.

q  Continue reading with your child.

By The End of May, We Recommend That You:

q  Help your child feel comfortable and confident about the move to kindergarten by discussing the new activities, schedules, and transportation.

q  Attend orientations offered to get familiar with the school.

q  Encourage your student to ask questions. If you do not know the answer, call the school to get the needed information.

q  Convey a positive attitude about the new school.

q  Meet with other parents of children who will be attending the new school.

During The Summer Before Your Child Goes To Kindergarten, We Recommend That You:

q  Attend the school’s Kindergarten Parent Orientation.

q  Get to know staff members who will be with your child on a daily or regular basis.

q  Read the recommended books, at the back of this brochure with your child.

q  Check out the suggested websites for additional resources.

q  Practice daily routines such as putting away things and following directions.

We recommend that your Child:

q  Learns how to tie his/her shoes.

q  Learns how to button pants and do belts.

q  Knows how to tuck in shirt all the way around.

q  Practices how to write his/her name.

The First Days of School, We Recommend That You:

q  Teach your child their first and last names.

q  Make sure your child has a nametag with name, phone number, and mode of transportation.

q  Either send a sack lunch or pre-pay the cashier weekly or monthly. Also look into filling out a Free or Reduce lunch application if assistance is needed.

q  Look into buying school supply packets or pick up a supply list.

q  Make sure your child knows how proud you are of him/ her and exit the classroom so the instructional day may begin.
