Employment

In trend terms, total employment in South Australia rose by 500 (0.1%), and rose by 20,000 (0.2%) nationally in October—seeChart1.

  • In South Australia, full-time employment rose by 100 persons and part-time employment rose by 300 (0.1%).
  • Nationally, full-time employment rose by 16,000 persons (0.2%) and part-time employment rose by 4,000 (0.1%).

Annual trend employment growth was 1.5% for South Australia and 2.9% nationally.

In seasonally adjusted terms, total employment in South Australiafell by 1,800 people (0.2%) in October, following a fall of0.2% in September. Employment rose by 3,700nationally.

  • In South Australia, full-time employment rose by 7,900 (1.5%) while part-time employment fell by 9,700 (3.3%).
  • Nationally, full-time employment rose by 24,300 people (0.3%) and part-time employment fell by 20,700 (0.5%).

Hours worked

In trend terms, monthly hours worked in all jobs fell by 0.1% in South Australia in Octoberbut was 2.3%higher than a year earlier—see Chart2. Nationally, monthly hours worked in all jobsincreased by 3.1% through the year to October.

Unemployment

In trend terms, the unemployment rate in South Australiafell from 5.8% in September to 5.6% in October. Nationally, the unemployment rate remained unchanged at 5.5% in October—see Table1 and Chart4.

In seasonally adjusted terms, South Australia’s unemployment rate remained unchanged at5.8% in October. Australia’s unemployment rate fell from 5.5% in September to 5.4% in October.

Participation

In trend terms, the participation rate in South Australiafellfrom 62.0% in September to 61.9% in October. Nationally, the participation rate remained unchanged at 65.2%—see Chart5.

In seasonally adjusted terms, the South Australian participation rate fell0.2 of a percentage point to 61.8% in October. Nationally, the participation rate fell0.1 of a percentage point to 65.1%.
