OMEGA PSI PHI FRATERNITY SCHOLARSHIP DESCRIPTION

  1. General Information

The Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc. Scholarship in honor of Mr. J.G. Henry and Mr. H.C. Powers will be awarded to a Duplin County student. This scholarship is to help insure that a student who has excelled academically and who plans to attend college is provided recognition for their achievement.

The scholarship will be one time only for a value of $500. Once a student has been selected for the scholarship, the student must verify enrollment to the Fraternity in a timely manner. The scholarship will be awarded after completion of 1st Semester.

  1. Application Procedures:
  1. Any high school senior who meets the criteria may make application. Applications for the Omega Psi Phi Fraternity Scholarship may be obtained from the local high school principal, school counselor or online at
  1. Completed applications should be submitted to school principals or counselors who will forward them to the Director of Support Services at the Board of Education by the announced deadline.
  1. Student applicants will receive points according to the following criteria: Plans to attend a Black College/University, participation in School and Community, Leadership, Grade Point Average, Special Honors-academics and/or community, application professionally completed, written essay and SAT score.
  1. Three letters of reference from a community person, teacher and/or counselor of the applicant’s choice must accompany the application. The Reference Form to be used is a part of the application.
  1. An official transcript from high school must accompany the application.
  1. Selection Procedures:
  1. All applications will be sent to the Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc. scholarship committee for review, scoring and selection.
  1. The Duplin County Education Foundation Scholarship Committee will approve the final selection.
  1. Scholarship recipients will be announced at the M. Austin Carter Academic Awards Celebrations. A representative from Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc. will present the scholarship. Applicants for this scholarship should be in attendance at the awards celebrations.
