·  This week we read The Napping House. We continued to review the fictional story elements of character and setting. We introduced plot as beginning, middle, and end. We completed our very first story map!
·  Our sight words this week were blue, for, look, & said.
·  In Jolly Phonics we learned g, o, u, l and f. Please continue to use your Chicka Chicka Boom Boom book to practice with your child.
·  This week in writer’s workshop we began to write books with beginning, middle and end. We went through the process of writing sentences and drawing pictures to share memories as a group. Next week the children will get to try it independently with their own stories.
·  In math this week we continued to work on our number fluency, number formation, and hidden partners.
·  For “Fun Freaky Friday” Miss Carrignan introduced the idea of community by initiating our community service project (something every grade level at WAS does). We will be making seasonal placemats for the local Meals on Wheels program for seniors. Mrs. Helmlinger’s continued to teach the children sign language, and I continued instruction in the reading and comprehension of nonfiction text. Ask your child how hippos fight – it’s disgusting J. / ·  What might I write about when I get to make my own book in Writer’s Workshop?
·  Counting up or down from numbers other than 1.
·  How to color with hidden numbers in math.
·  The basics a living thing needs to survive
