Due Dates for Game Design creating your own game

Chapter Reflection on Game Design: Levels and Features due by March 22nd

This chapter will help you with the next assignment. It is a 3 paragraph format, written or typed assignment. Elaboration is key to show me you learned and understood what they were talking about.

Game Description: due by Thursday, March 28th

This includes the type of game, character description and levels. Write a detailed paragraph about your game and the goals. The 2nd paragraph should include the controls and scoring options.

Sprites- electronic format: due by April 12th

If you are in Ms. Ballard’s grade 8 class, you are working on the drawings with her. These drawings must be scanned so that they are now in a format that Game Maker can use. If you have a scanner at home, you are more than welcome to do this at home and save the files to your flash drive. The images must be .png so that the background (white) around the images can be removed.

If you are not in Art, you may use images that are in the folder on the network for Game Design, draw your own and scan them or acquire free sprites using the following sites:

This site offers a list of sites to find free sprites

Sounds:

You can use the sounds that are in the folder on the network for Game Design. You can also search for free sounds from the following sites:

Level 1 and front end and completion screen: due by April 26th

You need to have built your front end and 1st level by this date. It must be working for me to check.

Level 2-4: due by May 10th

These must be working. Sounds should also be incorporated as well as scoring for levels 1-4. If you are working toward submitting your game for the contest, then you might wish to be farther along. In terms of your project requirements for me, you need a total of 9 levels (game rooms) as well as a front end and completion screen.

Levels 5-9: due by May 24th

These should be working levels with increasing difficulty (as you learned from your readings). Your classmates will be testing your games next week to give you feedback so that you have time to perfect your game before the end of the quarter.

Game Jam: May 28-31

Students will test and evaluate your games. Use the feedback to improve your game before you hand in your final version. Those planning to enter the StemFuse contest should pay close attention to the feedback and work on it outside of class. StemFuse’s deadline is May 31st (with no extensions or late submissions allowed).

Lab time: June 3-12

Use this time to polish your game. Your final version is due by Friday, June 14th…no extensions or late submissions. It is better to hand in a partially working game than no game at all. The game project counts 5 TIMES in my grade book. A 0 will severely hurt your grade.
