Skittles Project

Directions: This project involves many of the 6th grade Common Core Standards that we have covered this year. It will be done in class up until May 28th.

Due Date: May 28th(can complete in class on this day)

Students are to use notes in their binder, their peers in class, and myself to ask questions.

Main Idea:Studentswillreceive a bag of skittles. Before opening the bag they are to conjecture how many total skittles they have, record their guesses, then open the bag and record the actual data. From there, we are going to collect the whole classes’ data and analyze it by finding the mean, median, mode, range, mean absolute deviation, fraction, decimal, percent, etc.

The next page you will see a scoring rubric which will be used to grade the entire project. This project will be counted as a primary assessment. Page 2 & 3 will have its own rubric and count as a secondary assessment. Page 5 will also have its own rubric and count as a secondary assessment. Please use the rubricsattached as a checklist and turn it in with the project.

Please detach and return to Ms. Przywara no later than Thursday May 21st.

Without opening or touching your bag of Skittles Candies, estimate how many are inside and record below. Predict how many of each color you will have. (If your estimated total is 30 Skittles Candiesin your bag then your total prediction of Skittles Candiescolors should also add to 30) Then open your bag and find your actual total and how many you have of each color. Record your results.
