Directing Plays with Children and Young People
In this stimulating one-day workshop author and director David Farmer outlines a playful approach to directing. He explores how drama games can be used to develop characters, extend acting skills and create imaginative staging of scenes. The approaches can be used with young children through to teenagers.
Participants will have the opportunity to work on scenes from the author’s latest book of plays using approaches outlined during the day.
· Use drama games and practical techniques to discover new ways of approaching rehearsal
· Take part in activities designed to enhance creativity and encourage group co-operation
· Explore activities ranging from warm ups to group dynamics, movement, storytelling and voice exercises
· Includes a free signed copy of"Playful Plays"by David Farmer.
The course is suitable for anyone who wants to learn about directing plays with children and young people or is looking for new ideas and guidance. This highly accessible day is ideal as professional development for teachers, drama workers, actors, amateur or semi-professional theatre directors, or as an introduction for those wishing to develop their drama skills. The emphasis will be on a relaxed and informal atmosphere - you will leave inspired, refreshed and with a new skill set of ideas and approaches.

The Tutor
As Artistic Director of Tiebreak Theatre Company, David Farmer has directed, written or performed in over 65 plays to half a million children and young people. His work has been commissioned by the Lyric Theatre Hammersmith, the Royal Exchange Manchester, the Natural History Museum and the Forest Commission. His productions have appeared in the West End, in theatres and schools across the UK, at international festivals and tours of Germany, Norway, Canada and the USA. He manages the popular website www.dramaresource.com.
What to Bring
Comfortable clothing to move in. Light refreshments are included and at lunchtime we usually walk to eat a delicious lunch at Leons at Old Spitalfields Market (lunch not included).

Payment: The fee is £195 per participant. There is a 10% discount for each additional colleague from the same organisation.

Cancellation Agreement
A cancellation of your booking must be made in writing or by email to David Farmer at Drama Resource to be received as soon as possible.
· There is an administration charge of £25 payable for cancellations received 61 or more days before the start of the course.
· Cancellations received 29-60 days before the start of the course are subject to a cancellation fee of 25 per cent of the course fees.
· Cancellations received 15-28 days before the start of the course are subject to a cancellation fee of 50 per cent of the course fees.
· Cancellations received 0-14 days before the start of the course are subject to a cancellation fee of 100 per cent of the course fees.
· If the participant fails to attend the course, the full course fees are payable.
· Cancellation fees apply regardless of whether any payments have yet been received.
· Drama Resource reserves the right to cancel any course and will return any booking fee paid in advance.
