Dr. Lakis Zotiades B.Sc (Hons.), Ph.D, C Chem, MRSC

Graduated the English School Nicosiain 1961. Εxcelled as an athlete representing the school team in football, volleyball and athletics.

Joined the ICI Plastic Division in UK, while embarking on part time studies in Chemistry at Mid-Herts College and won first prize at the ONC level. Studies were continued on full time basis and obtained the B.Sc (Hons) degree in Applied Chemistry at HertfordshireUniversity.

Having won a University Scholarship, proceeded to complete a Ph.D degree in Physical Organic Chemistry at theUniversity of Sussex.

At ICI Plastics, helped to develop new methods of improving the properties and performance of plastic materials such as PVC, Perspex, Polyethylene.

Attention subsequently turned to Food Chemistry and before taking up employment in Cyprus, participated in an intensive food orientation programme for postgraduates at the companies Heinz, Cadbury Scwheppes,Libby’s, Brook Bond OXO involved in the canning of fruits and vegetables, tomato paste and Ketchup, fruit juices and meat products.

In 1971, Dr. Zotiades was appointedChief Chemist Factory Manager at an upcoming food company, Viagrex Canning Ltd in Limassol which was subsequently taken over by the Cyprus Cooperatives and merged with Sevegep Co-op Ltd.

In 1982 was promoted to Secretary Manager of Sevegep Co-op at Nicosia H.Q and faced the daunting task of saving the Co-op Company from collapse following gross mismanagement by the Co-op hierarchy.

Team work and strategic planning involving streamlining production in one factory, increasing production capacity and securing specific export outlets, helped to put the company on the right track of recovery. A new healthy company was established the “New Sevegep Ltd” which is still today performing extremely well and is the most profitable company in the Coop family.

In October 1991, Dr. Zotiades formed his own company, the “L. Zotiades Trading & Consulting Ltd”, specializing in frozen food products, beverages and consultancy services to the food industry. Innovative frozen products were imported and distributed in the local market. A modern distribution centre was established and a distribution network was set up covering most of the retail and catering outlets.

Shortly after, responding to consumer trends, the Company started importing and distributing the MR. BROWN ready to drink coffee in many flavours, giving the opportunity to consumersto enjoy their favourite coffee drink anytime and anywhere at their convenience. The product now is a leader in its category, selling to over 2000 points of sales. Recently the beverage division expanded the range of products to include the “Green Time” Iced Tea and locally produced “Fan” juices.

Under the umbrella of Zotiades Group of companies, in 2008 the new company the “Zotiades Energy Ltd”, was established, specializing in Photovoltaic technology. It provides turnkeysolutions from the design to installation of PV systems on roofs of buildings and on the ground
