Dr. Brij K. Dhindaw, Head Materials Panel, NRB is currently MGM Chair Professor, School of Minerals Metallurgical and Materials Engineering, Indian Institute of Technology Bhubaneswar. Earned his B.Tech (Hons) and Ph.D., from IIT Kharagpur.

He has previously served as Professor, Dean (PG&Research), Head Metallurgical Engineering and Chairman Central Research Facility at IIT Kharagpur. He has been Visiting Professor /Researcher at Ames Laboratory, Iowa State University, Ames, Iowa, USA, University of Alabama, USA, University Space Research Association USRA, NASA, Huntsville, USA, Royal Institute of Technology, Sweden, Osaka University, Japan, Brunel University, UK, McMaster University, Canada, Magnesium Institute, Geesthact, Germany, University Sains Malaysia. He has delivered invited lectures at several Universities and Research organizations around the world.

He has received the Best Metallurgist award from Ministry of Steel, Government of India, and Certificate of Recognition from NASA, USA and Silver Jubilee Research award from IIT Kharagpur. He has been P.I of several research projects funded by DRDO, CSIR, DST and Ministry of Steel and Ministry of Human Resource Developments, and Co-P.I of projects funded by NASA and State of Alabama, USA. He has more than 180 research papers published in International peer reviewed journals. His research areas cover all aspects of Materials Engineering and Science. Ha has written two books and edited several others volumes.

Professor V G Idichandy, Panel Head Marine Systems Panel

Professor V G Idichandy, is the former Director (officiating) and Deputy Director of IIT Madras. He served IIT Madras in different positions for over four decades and retired in 2011 as Professor, Dept. of Ocean Engineering. Since then he served as Professor Emeritus in the Department of Ocean Engineering, till end of June 2015. On completion of the assignment, he was appointed as Advisor, IIT Palakkad, a position he held till end of March 2016. Currently he is serving as Chief Mentor of SSN Innovation Centre, a new initiative in SSN Engineering College run by Shiv Nadar Foundation.

Dr Chandy received Ph.D. in Ocean Engineering and MS (By Research) in Engineering Mechanics degrees from IIT Madras and a Masters degree in Physics from Kerala University. He did post doctoral research in the Technical University, Berlin in the area of Experimental Hydrodynamics.

Prof Chandy research interests are in the areas of Structural Diagnostics, Sensors and Experimental Hydrodynamics. He has nearly 90 research publications, supervised several doctoral and master degree students. He coordinated a number of research projects for Volks Wagon Foundation, ONGC, Defence Research, National Institute of Ocean Technology to name a few. He organized a number of short term courses, workshops and was the Organizing Secretary of two International Conferences in Ocean Engineering in IIT Madras.

On 31st July 2012, the Prime Minister of India awarded the “DRDO Academy Excellence Award 2011” to Prof Chandy and two other colleagues for their contributions to defence research.Prof Chandy along with Prof Kurian, University Technology Petronas, Malaysia, was awarded the Silver Medal for the invention “Wave Force Totaller” at the 25th International Invention, Innovation and Technology Exhibition ITEX 2014 Malaysia, 8-10 May 2014. In 2015 the same team was awarded the silver medal in 2015 and Gold medal in 2016 for different innovative designs of sensors.

Dr. P. S. Ramaiah, Panel Head of SSB panel

Dr. P. Seetha Ramaiah is currently working as Professor Emeritus in the dept. of Computer Science and Systems Engg., Andhra University, Visakhapatnam, obtained Ph.D. in Computer Science and Engg. In 1990 and supervised 20 Ph.D. dissertations in the areas of Embedded Systems, Acoustic Noise Control, Robotic Hand, Safety Critical Computer Controlled Systems, Underwater Acoustic networks and Implantable Medical Devices. Visiting Professor from Aug.1999-july2000 in the dept. of Applied Computer Science, Illinois State University, Normal, USA. Member of Visiting Staff to University of Manchester Institute of Science and Technology-Manchester and Imperial College of Science and Technology-London under Academic Link Exchange Scheme sponsored by British Council-UK and UGC –New Delhi.

A research project on 4-Fingered Robotic Hand was developed with the support of financial grant under SERC scheme of DST, New Delhi. A prototype cochlear implant system (Bionic Ear) was developed with the support of NSTL/DEBEL-DRDO and prototype to product development is under progress.

Recipient of Best Researcher Award from Andhra University, in 1998.Recipient of DRDO’s Academy Excellence Award-2011 from Hon. PM of India, in July 2012.Published 115 research articles in reputed journals-ACM/Elsevier/Publishing India/IETE/IEE/etc. (50) and conferences-Intl. &National (65). Two Books were published: ANUPAMA Processor Architecture & Applications, DSID-DRDO, 2009, Computer Organization, School of Distance Education, Andhra University.

Dr. K. Poulose Jacob, Panel Head Scientific Computing Panel

Dr. K. PouloseJacob, is the former Vice Chancellor (officiating) and Pro Vice Chancellor of Cochin University of Science and Technology (CUSAT). He served CUSAT in different positions for over thirty five years; almost 20 years as Professor & Head of the Department of Computer Science.

Dr. Jacob received Ph.D. in Computer Engineering and M.Tech in Electronics from CUSAT, while the Bachelor’s in Electrical Engineering he received with National Merit Scholarship, from Kerala University. He had advanced training in the Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore, the Pink Elephant, Reading, UK, and the Management Development Foundation, Ede, the Netherlands.

He has undertaken several projects funded by DoE, MHRD, DST, TIFAC and the state government. He has been the Project Director for an Infrastructure Project funded by the Royal Dutch Government involving four Universities in the Netherlands, with the objective of strengthening Research and teaching in CUSAT. He has travelled extensively visiting institutions of higher learning in South-East Asia, Europe, USA, Central America, UK, Africa and the UAE.

He has delivered invited lectures at several Universities and Higher Education Institutions around the world. He has more than 130 research papers published in International peer reviewed journals and conferences. His research areas cover several aspects of Computer Science like Intelligent Architectures, Networks, WSN, Information Systems Engg, Cyber Security etc. He has edited seven volumes in Computer Science and written several book chapters. Nineteen scholars have secured their PhD under his supervision, as on 2017; two more have submitted their dissertation.

He has received the Outstanding Service Award of the IEEE COMPUTER SOCIETY, Chapter Patron award of the Computer Society of India and Certificate of Recognition from the University of San Carlos in the Philippines. He has been selected as 2017 Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement Award Winner.

Currently he officiates as the NeST Chair Professor at the Rajagiri School of Engineering and Technology, Cochin, a premier institution offering excellence in engineering education and research; while serving as Director of the NeST Knowledge Centre, the constituent of a corporate having DST approved R&D wing.

Dr C. V. K. Prasada Rao, Panel Head, Ocean Environment Panel

Dr C.V.K. Prasada Rao has served as scientist at Naval Physical & Oceanographic Laboratory (NPOL), a DRDO organisation in Kochi and superannuated in 2013 as Scientist-G and Associate Director. He worked at NPOL for 36 years and during this period he planned, initiated and executed many projects/ programmes in oceanography and underwater acoustics for Anti-Submarine Warfare (ASW) and SONAR Systems. He served in several capacities and played important role in realising the objectives of DRDO oceanographic projects, namely, COMAP, MARS, SAGAR and AMRUTA. As Division Head and Group Head of Ocean Sciences he made significant contributions in transforming fundamental ocean science research into ASW oceanographic research. He initiated joint research programmes of NPOL-SAC (ISRO) and PI for oceansat-1and oceansat-2 data utilisation projects. He has good experience of oceanographic research vessels as he was closely associated with design and construction of NPOL Research Vessel, INS Sagardhwani and CSIR-NIO vessel ORV Sindhu Sadhana.

Dr C.V.K. Prasada Rao has got his masters degree in oceanography from Andhra University and Ph.D., in Marine Sciences from CUSAT. As oceanographer he was an active participant in many Oceanographic Expeditions like, MONSOON-77, MONEX-79, BOBMEX-99, and ARMEX-02. His research interests are ocean wave measurements, wave analysis techniques, wave modelling, ocean currents, remote sensing of oceans and underwater acoustics propagation. He has more than 50 publications in refereed national and international journals and conference proceedings.

He served as member of the project monitoring committee on ‘Ocean Sciences and Resources’ of MoES, member of ‘Ocean Environment Panel’, NRB and member of vessel monitoring committee of ORV Sindhu Sadhana (CSIR-NIO) and several other technical committees of DRDO. He is the Board of Studies member of Marine Science Department of CUSAT and School of Ocean Science & Technology, KUFOS. He adjudicated several M.Sc., M.Tech., Ph.D., thesis of CUSAT, Andhra University and Anna University and served as an external examiner for various P.G. courses of these Universities. After superannuation from Govt. service, he served as Academic Consultant during 2014-2016 at Kerala University of Fisheries & Ocean Studies (KUFOS), Panangad, Kochi in organising post-graduate course in physical oceanography. Currently he is engaged as Adjunct Faculty at KUFOS and teaching M.Sc., students. He is member of several professional societies and founding member of Ocean Society of India (OSI) and served as General Secretary, Vice-President and Governing Council Member of OSI.

Prof. S. K. Bhattacharyya , Panel Head Hydro Vibro Acoustic

Prof. S. K. Bhattacharyya has a B.Tech (Hons) degree in Naval Architecture from IIT Kharagpur in 1978. He obtained MS (by research) degree in 1985 and PhD degree in 1989, both in Ocean Engineering from IIT Madras. He worked as a warshipbuilding hull engineer in Mazagon Docks Ltd. during 1978 to 1981 before joining IIT Madras. He holds the position of Professor in the Department of Ocean Engineering at IIT Madras from 2000.

During his long tenure at IIT Madras, some of the more significant positions he held are: (a) Head of the Department of the Department of Ocean Engineering, IIT Madras from Oct. 2009 to Oct. 2012; (b) Member, Board of Governors IIT Madras during 2014-2015, (c) Member, Committee on Ocean Environment of International Ships and Offshore Structures Congress, 2011 to 2015. He received DRDO Academy Excellence Award 2011 with two of his colleagues from IIT Madras.

His research interests are: Ship and Offshore Structures, Structural Dynamics, Fluid-Structure Interaction, Finite Element Method, Dynamics of Floating Bodies, Ocean Acoustics, Controllability of Marine Vehicles, Marine CFD and Risk analysis of Marine Systems. He published over 100 papers in journals and conferences.
