3)  2015 Outhouse Race – Work Items

·  Date set for February 21st – Last year approximately 150 people attended the Outhouse Race. The race takes place on an oval track in the empty lot between The Palace Saloon and the old Corner Pub building.

·  Team Recruitment – Need Teams – Director Knepper will be making phone calls in an effort to recruit more teams this year. In past years, the city Police Department, Fire Department and city administration- employees all provided teams for this event. City Manager Oliver Turner indicated that he will get in touch with the Police and Fire Department to see if they would like to participate. Approximately 8-10 teams took part in last year’s Outhouse Race.

·  Recruitment of Major Sponsor – The DDA is looking for a sponsor for this event. Approximately $1,000 is needed to go towards prizes and launch the button program.

·  Advertising and Promotion – Linda Hoath indicated that CVB will get the word out regarding the Pub Crawl, once prize amounts have been confirmed.

·  Other Festivities in Conjunction with Event

-  Snow Sculpting Competition

-  Button Sales – The DDA would like to promote the race by selling admission buttons at a minimal cost. Buttons will be available at businesses located on Ashmun Street and Portage Avenue.

-  Other - The Events Committee discussed tying in the Outhouse Race with a new multi-day “Winter Carnival” next year. Ideas included: kids’ cardboard sled racing at Minneapolis Woods, lighted ice sculptures, snowboard jump contest and an outdoor skating rink (lot between the Satisfied Frog and/or Rotary Park pond). It was also suggested that next year’s Outhouse Race include teams from Soo, Canada – an “International Outhouse Race.”
