Activity 1 -Split into groups of 4-5 and introduce activity Performance = Potential – Interference
At major games where might the ‘interference’ come from?
Answers might include:
•You, the team manager
•Other team managers
•The coach
•Other team coaches
•Players – your team, other teams
•Support team e.g. physiotherapists, doctors, psychologists etc
•Officials

  • When and how will you communicate with your team (performers and management) during the event?
  • When and how will the team communicate with family and friends at home during the event?
  • When and how will you communicate with the media?
  • When and how will you communicate with competition officials to ensure changes to event timings and logistics can be communicated to you in a timely manner?
Groups feedback key points

Facilitate stress line activity to help team managers identify typical stressors and show how people react differently to different situations. Discuss factors affecting individual tolerance levels.
Activity 4 - Coping Strategies – individually, team managers outline 3 personal coping strategies they use for managing their stress responses. Ask for an example from each person and add a couple of practical examples:
e.g. plan personal time out; exercise; talk things out; meditate
Lead discussion to consider and explore differences about how different their perceptions may be and how they might think, feel and behave if you really believed the statements on slide 15 to be true.
Offer examples of 2 coping strategies on slides 16 and 17. If time permits give practical demonstration of how each works.

Ask each TM to review their SWOT from workshop 2. Once they have completed this ask them to consider any additional areas they would like to improve – Strengths and weaknesses are within their control
Finally ask them to consider any additional opportunities and threats to their future development or effectiveness within their role; these are things outside their direct control, but that may still have an impact on them.
E.g. What resources are available to them to help?
What might hinder their progress – people, circumstances etc?
Activity 6 –Action - Use slide to help them review their action since workshop 2 and identify additional action points for future development on their new action planner. Ask questions to establish action.
Remind them that although they have completed the Team Manager workshops they haven’t finished their development journey and should still undertake continual professional development to up-skill and keep knowledge current.
