Donor Relations Manager

Muscular Dystrophy Canada – one of Canada’s leading voluntary health charities since 1954 – is a non-profit leader supporting people with neuromuscular disorders to gain independence; an advocate working for meaningful social change in the health and non-profit community; and a contributor in the search for the cure for neuromuscular disorders. The Walk for Muscular Dystrophy is our signature event, and Fire Fighters have been an integral and essential part of our fundraising efforts since 1954.

The Mission:

Muscular Dystrophy Canada’s mission is to enhance the lives of those affected with neuromuscular disorders by continually working to provide ongoing support and resources while relentlessly searching for a cure through well-funded research.

Primary Accountabilities:

Reporting to the National Campaign Director, the Donor Relations Managerwill have a wide range of fundraising responsibilities, including prospect research, donor cultivation, solicitation, recognition and stewardship, as well as supporting volunteers and staff in fundraising activities.

Responsibilities:

  • Conducts prospect research
  • Prepares briefing notes, donor correspondence, and call reports on prospective donors
  • Tracks all major gift activity in Raiser’s Edge and major gifts pipeline
  • Participates in strategy development
  • Participates in identification, cultivation, solicitation and stewardship of major gifts, including personal visits, preparing and sending written solicitations and proposals
  • Creates regular reports for senior leadership
  • Manages planning and logistics for donor cultivation and stewardship events
  • Assists with preparing agendas and prepares notes for campaign volunteer leadership meetings

Candidate Requirements

Education

Bachelor’s degree or equivalent education and experience/training required

Experience

Minimum of 7 years progressively responsible fundraising experience, with at least 5 years’ experience in major giving.

  • Ability to synthesize and summarize information quickly.
  • Has excellent organization and administrative skills, and can manage multiple tasks, conflicting objectives and changing priorities.
  • Possesses excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Understands moves management.
  • Well-developed networking, listening, and rapport building skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to maintain confidential and privileged information with discretion.
  • Understanding of Raiser’s Edge and Microsoft Office.
  • Self-motivated and detail oriented.
  • Can relate to people with disabilities, donors and corporate partners in a relaxed and amicable manner.
