Job Title: / Domestic Abuse Support Worker

Work base: / Windmill Hill Children’s Centre, (will be asked to work across the Salisbury Plain Training area when required)

Main Purpose of Job:
  • To develop and maintain effective partnership working with parents with a commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children.
  • To work with Army Welfare Service, Splitz and other agencies to assess, provide and co-ordinate interventions to meet identified support needs of armed forces families with children on a one to one basis and within agroup setting.
  • To facilitate and deliver support and interventions which improve parental capacity and family relationships for families experiencing or who have experienced Domestic Abuse.
  • To participate in the wider Children’s Centre service with a particular emphasis on targeted vulnerable families to engage actively with the service.

  • Complete 80% initial assessment and end of intervention baseline questionnaire

  • Record all group sessions and any incidents requiring follow up to required quality and timebound

Job Description
Providing Excellent Services
  1. To provide individual and group support to armed forces families with children who are affected by a range of issues which can include disability, domestic violence, welfare rights parenting and safeguarding.
  1. To assess the needs of children in order to promote their well being and improve outcomes.
  1. To work with CAF processes where required and as part of a Team Around the Child, which includes attending external meetings and case conferences, fulfilling the roles of Lead Professional in the CAF in some situations.
  1. To develop and use a range of innovative approaches to effectively engage with and develop services for families experiencing/who have experienced Domestic Abuse, alongside key partners (AWS and Splitz), to complement the Recovering Together vision for best outcomes for children and their families.
  1. To work with families and Army Welfare, Splitz and other agencies to develop and co-ordinate the delivery of a shared support plan.
  1. To refer families to specialist and other services when appropriate and with consent in accordance with required protocols and monitor family progress and engagement with referred services.
  1. To ensure that the policies, procedures and practice for safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children are implemented effectively within Spurgeons and relevant Local Safeguarding Children Board policies and procedures.
  1. To take up referrals and work with parents to identify, understand and meet their children’s needs and promote positive outcomes for their children.
  1. To facilitate and/or deliver Domestic Abuse support programmes to identified armed forces families within the children’s centres and community venues.
  1. To work flexibly and deliver services across the Salisbury Plain Training area as directed.
Managing Self and Others
  1. Be accountable for and review own practice using supervision and other opportunities for professional development.
  1. To follow lone working policy and guidelines when undertaking community outreach visits.
  1. To provide support as required to colleagues (internally and partner agencies) to ensure project targets are achieved, in conjunction with your line manager’s requests.
Managing Resources
  1. Follow contractually agreed case management procedures, including recording and reporting, involving other agencies, colleagues and line managers where appropriate.
  1. To work with other members ofSpurgeons Children’s Centres teams to prepare for and participate in OFSTED inspections.

Attainments / In order to be considered for this post you will have to demonstrate that you already have: / Criteria

Qualifications

/ NVQ level 3 qualification in Child Care, Health or Social Care or equivalent
Evidence of recent and continuing professional development in relation to child development and family support practice.
IDVA qualified / E

Experience

/ Professional experience of engaging in family support with vulnerable families
Experience of providing home visits and facilitating group sessions
Experience in running family support programmes and parenting courses
Practical experience in identifying innovative ways to engage with hard to reach families
Experience of working in within a multi-agency team, interagency settings and the CAF/TAC process
Experience of using data bases for recording, maintaining monitoring and retrieving information.
Experience of delivering the Freedom, You and Me, Mum or other Domestic Abuse support programmes
Experience of using CAADA DASH risk assessment. / E

Work Based Knowledge

/ A working knowledge and demonstrable understanding of:
The Children Acts of 1989 and 2004 and United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child
Child protection and safeguarding issues, including Safeguarding and Child Protection policies, procedures and systems
Knowledge of Child Development and the impact on children from issues such as domestic violence, substance misuse and parental mental health
An Outcomes based approach to measuring performance and its application in services for children.
Lone Working best practice.
The Data Protection act in relation to working with Children families and multi-agency working.

Regular travel within the Salisbury Plain Garrison Training areas
Requires lone working within Spurgeons policies and procedures
Occasional national and regional travel
