From the Principal’s Desk

Dear Parents,

It’s amazing that the school year is nearing an end. It has been extremely eventful and we hope your children have made the most of the learning experiences we have made available this year. Here are a few year-end reminders:

•Information regarding summer school will be sent as soon as we have determined student eligibility.

•Registration information forms for returning students should have been returned to your child’s teacher in April

•Each year brings changes. We will notify you of any changes by phone and mail. It is important that we have your most up to date contact information.

•Kindergarten Registration is open. You may register your kindergarten student for next school year

Parental Support and Involvement is a Key Indicator for Student Success

This has been an excellent year. When I am asked what has been the most effective project or program, my response remains, those that have received the most parental support are what worked best. For example, first and kindergarten began the SIPPS program (Systematic Instruction in Phonological Awareness, Phonics, and Sight Words). For 30 minutes in the AM or PM, students received systematic instruction in phonics and word recognition. Many students have had great success with the program. A review of the student data shows the students who were present for the instruction had the most gains. Parental support made the difference when students were not regularly tardy or checked out early.

I have also reviewed the records of many students who struggle and are in danger of retention. Several of these students have either excessive absences and/or are frequently tardy. Parent support with attendance, homework and communication play a key role in your child’s success. We encourage your participation through PTO, SAC and the volunteer program. I look forward to working with you next year.

Have a Wonderful Summer!

Summer Learning Gap

Research has shown that students experience as much as two months learning in mathematics and four months in reading. It is important that children read during the summer and compute at the appropriate level. Ideas for families to not promote the gap are forthcoming.

YEARBOOKS:Yearbook orders are due by May 4. Yearbooks are $20. Due to a misprint on the yearbook order envelope, some have sent in $10. We ask that you help our school by sending in the remainder of the amount due. If you would prefer a refund, please let us know. We apologize for the error and inconvenience. Thank you! Mrs. Thrasher, Bookkeeper
