Clinical Hours:

  1. Direct and Indirect Counseling Services – (approx. 50% time) including recruiting clients; intake; testing; diagnostic assessment; individual, couples, family and group counseling; consultation; referral; reviewing tapes; report writing; background and evaluative research. A minimum total of 240 hours is required to be direct service work with clients (client contact time). In your record indicate kinds of clients seen as well as treatment approaches.
  2. Direct hours include: intake; testing; diagnostic assessment; psychoeducational presentations/guidance; individual, couples, family and group counseling.
  3. Indirect hours include: consultation; referral; reviewing tapes; report writing; background and evaluative research

Other Non-direct Hours:

  1. Supervision- (approx 10% time) receiving direct individual and group supervision on counseling activities from a licensed mental health professional. A minimum total of 15 hours of individual supervision and 22.5 hours of group supervision are required over the course of the internship.
  2. Administration – (approx 10% time) including staff meetings, scheduling, accounting, program record keeping, liaison with other agencies, public relations, program research.
  3. Personnel- (approx 10% of time) including selection, teaching, training, presentations, workshop facilitation, supervision, management, and evaluation for counselors and other personnel, as related to the Internship setting goals; and evaluative research on these activities.
  4. Professional Project – (approx. 10% time) work on an independent, creative and/or research project which can be applied toward completion of the

Master’s degree. The project should be to pursue other students’ interests, advance them toward development of a professional expertise, and be

congruent with the goals of the Internship setting. Potential projects include Master’s thesis research, other research, needs assessments, training

program manuals, grant proposals etc.

  1. Professional Development - (approx. 10% time) involvement in activities which foster the professional and personal development of the student

such as in service training, conference attendance, participation in workshops, involvement in a support group with other interns and

personal counseling.
