HANDSTANDS-FOR-HUNGER:

Hunger hurts one in ten residents of Eastern Massachusetts.

Together, we can end hunger here.

Region 6 Men’s Gymnastics:

Max Finn, a gymnast from Yellow Jackets Gymnastics, came up with an idea to help the community.

Member clubs across Region 6 are participating in a Handstand-a-thon to benefit The Greater Boston Food Bank (GBFB).

GBFB is the largest hunger-relief organization in New England and among the largest food banks in the country. Last year more than 54 million pounds ofnutritiousfood was distributed, enough to provide healthy meals to over 500,000 people who struggle to eat. The GBFB is committed to increasing food distribution to provide at least one meal a day to everyperson in needin Eastern Massachusetts while supportinghealthy lives and healthy communities.

Gymnasts may use the“Handstands for Hunger Pledge Form”to collect pledges from friends and family. People may pledge any dollar amount for every second the athlete spends in a handstand (or they may make a flat donation). On March 15th, the day of the Handstand-a-thon, your gymnast will come to the gym and perform his handstand (limit the boys to 1 minute). If someone pledges $1.00 for every second in a handstand and your gymnast holds a 50 second handstand, that person donates $50.00.

All money raised will be donated to the GBFB.

Attached is a link for the Handstands-for Hunger initiative. Direct your friends and family to theHandstand-for-Hunger page and when a payment is made put your gymnast’s name in the field so that we know who the donation came from.

GBFB gratefully acknowledges your gift and confirms that no goods or services were provided in consideration of this charitable support. GBFB’s Tax ID# is 042-717-782

Parents and Gymnasts

Here’s how you can help us reach our goal:

1. Make a donation.

2. Use the pledge sheet on the other side and ask folks to make a flat donation or to pledge money for every second you spend on your hands.

3. Write a personal email to your friends and family encouraging them to make a donation to you. People don’t give if you don’t ask—and some folks may appreciate a personal request over the phone or in person. Reach out; you might be surprised by how much friends are willing to help if you ask directly.

4. Help us get the word out and tell your friends to participate in the Handstand-a-Thon on March 15.

5. Come stand on your hands. Whether your handstand is 10 seconds, 45 seconds, or 2 minutes, all of it helps us reach our goal.

If a sponsor would prefer to mail their pledge directly, have them send it to:

Daniel Young

223 Essex Street #38,

Melrose, MA 02176

Please collect and turn in all donations by April 1, along with your completed pledge sheet. All donations are tax deductible to the full extent of the law.

We can’t do this without you! Use the other side of this sheet to track your pledges, and practice for March 15th.

Happy Handstands.
