Liturgy Committee Meeting

September 9, 2015

Our Lady of the Valley Liturgy Committee met on Wednesday, September 9, 2015 in St. Ann School Meeting Room with the following members present: Fr. Peter, Anne Gemmell, Margie Terry, Beth Jacobs, John Bartell, Bill Bishop, Patty Peisher, Barb Banko, Noreen Mahoney, Jim Blaney (new Member) and Pat Hooper (Parish Council Liaison to Liturgy Committee)

  1. Roll Call – See above.
  1. Approval of April 8, 2015 minutes. By Pat Hooper Beth Jacobs 2nd Motion carried
  1. Bereavement Committee update: Margie Terry Everything going well with this ministry. Bill Bishop brought article to meeting concerning the words of remembrance. Article was from Order of Christian Funerals. 1 person to do words of remembrance and not to exceed 5 minutes. Margie Terry will hand out at Bereavement Committee meeting on Monday 9/14. Bill also requested that priest, deacon or choir director give direction to congregation when receiving communion at funerals.
  1. Goal Setting for 2015-16.
  2. Reach out to Parishioners that have fallen away from the church. Jim Blaney suggested we hand out a CD at Christmas titled Our Lives Change When Habits Change. Patty Peisher researched the price and found can purchase 500 CD for $2.00 a piece from Dynamic Catholic. Fr. Peter will look into ordering for possible distribution at Christmas masses
  3. Parish Welcome Booklet-Beth Jacobs. Beth has completed the booklet and now in FR. Peter hands for final approval and printing. Thank you Beth for a job well done.
  4. Adult Education-Going well with Deb. Adult classes going well and Estate Planning was well attended. Plans are being made for retreats and mission during Advent and Lent to celebrate the Year of Mercy as directed by the Holy Father.
  5. Present Mass Schedule- Will stay intact unless Fr. Peter loses the help of Fr. Morello or other staff changes occur
  6. Visitation of Homebound-Covered by the Deacons and parishioners who have had CASE training
  7. Eucharistic Ministers-Barb Banko brought up the fact that there may need to be some training for current ministers and new ministers.
  8. Healing Mass-Fr. Peter looking into this possibly during Lent.
  9. Appreciation Party for Volunteers-Ann Gemmell mentioned a mass for all volunteers. Well received by the group. Also Margie Terry mentioned a Christmas Party on a regular meeting night of Wednesdays. This was done in the past to bring church committees and volunteers together before the holiday.
  10. Choir-John Bartell reported that Choir needs new members. Current members are getting older and harder for them to make the stairs. John asking Dave Prete, Youth Coordinator to mention to the youth group and John may attend one of their meetings. Beth Jacobs is going to reach out to Choir teacher at Canisteo-Greenwood School
  11. Readers & Leaders-Beth said her schedule is OK right now however more readers are needed for the 7 Am mass. Only 2 right now Pat Hooper and Pat Wiggers
  12. Memorial Mass is planned for November 8, 2014 @ the 10:30 mass. Church office staff will need to order candles for this mass. Bill Bishop gets list from Mary Ann Logan to send letters to families that have had funerals in the last year. Fr. Peter also set the memorial mass for 2016. It will be November 6, 2016 @ 10:30
  13. Altar Servers- Mary Ann Logan and Fr. Peter have had a recent discussion. Mary Ann is contacting parents to see if Children on the list still want to serve. Part of First Communion preparation-- see if children would like to start serving at Mass. Also looking into the possibility of adults serving at weekend masses. It was brought to Fr. Peter’s attention that the schedule sent to families does not correspond with the schedule that is printed in the bulletin.
  14. Special mass for Hunters-set by Rexville. Keep offering a mass for Fireman, Policemen etc.
  1. Fr. Peter-Year of Mercy will begin in December 2015 through November 2016. Fr. Peter is planning retreats and other adult Ed topics for this coming years. Adoration of Blessed Sacrament may be every Sunday@ 3:30. Extra day for confession. Spirit of the Year as directed by the Holy Father. Letting go and forgiving. Year of Grace
  2. Other- Jim Blaney discussed offering up pain and sins on paper and burning them as a group etc. Noreen Mahoney upset that the Church is locked before 4 pm. Doors to the church should be open from 7:30 AM to 4 PM. Several group members mentioned the door are locked way before 4 pm sometimes as early as 2 pm. Fr. Peter is going to look into this problem. Barb Banko mentioned that she did not like special guest with appeals to talk at beginning of Mass. She comes early to pray and does not like being interrupted with talks before Mass. Fr. Peter explained this process that lay people appeals are not to conflict with homily etc.
