Faxon Law Fairfield Half Marathon has International Field

Fairfield: Sunday’s Faxon Law Fairfield Half Marathon features elite athletes from Ethiopia, Kenya, Russiaand the United States. The 5k race, taking place on Saturdayanticipates over 1,500 runners and Sunday’s half marathon expects to have over 4,000 entrants. Both racesbegin atJenningsBeach in Fairfield and the half marathon travels a scenic course along the Connecticut coastline and through some of the state’s most picturesque oceanfront neighborhoods. Raceday registration is available for both races.

2008 Russian Olympian in the 10,000 meters, Tatyana Aryasova heads women’s field. Aryasova clocked 1:13 at last month’s Indianapolis Half Marathon. Ethiopia’s Etaferhu will challenge Aryasava for a top spot. Temesgen finished the 2015 NYC Half Marathon in 1:11. She also recently finishedthe Ottawa Marathon in 2:29. Hamden’s Courtney Dinnanis expected to be the top Connecticut female. The University of Connecticutalumni, won this year’s Ion Bank Cheshire Half Marathon and the Faxon Law Greater Danbury Half Marathon.

One the men’s side, Tyler McCandless of Boulder, CO will contend for the top spot. McCandless competed at the 2012 Olympic Marathon Trials and boasts a 1:03 half marathon best. Kenya’s Eluid Ngetich, recent winner of the Litchfield Hills Road Race Branford Road Race, and last year’s Faxon Law Fairfield Half Marathon Champ,Ethiopia’s Habtamu Wegi, should challenge McCandless for the title. Kenyan Philemon Kiplangat Terer, with personal bests of 1:01 for the half marathon and 2:14 in the marathon, is also expected to finish near the top.
