Role Title: Quantity Surveyor
Role purpose: Typically to manage the financial and contractual aspects of a number of projects. To ensure that financial probity and the entire commercial aspects of all projects under their control are managed effectively and profitably. Within the exiting frameworks to ensure the preparation of tenders and manage the contractual position of the Company.
Accountabilities / Typical Performance Measure
Profitability/Commercial Awareness
  • To maximise the profitability of each project
  • To understand the tendering process and be able to create the appropriate tender documents.
  • Sign off commercial agreements with sub contractors and/or suppliers
  • Maximise value/income on a monthly basis.

  • Maximising the monthly cash flow position at all times.
  • The appropriate tender margin on each project.
  • Looking for incremental improvement to margin at every opportunity.
  • Providing accurate and consistent cost forecasts.

Contracts
  • To manage the contractual position of the Company at all stages of a project, managing the compliance of the Company and sub-contractors.
  • Setting terms of contracts with subcontractors, protecting the Company’s legal position.

  • Effectively controlling risk

Procurement
  • Ensuring that the enquiry, quotation and order processes are efficiently carried out.
  • Manage the timing of purchasing against the procurement plan.
  • Ensure the accurate and timely payment of supply chain.

  • The efficient selection and letting contracts to high quality subcontractors
  • The accuracy of financial analysis prior to placing orders

Financial Reporting
  • Make decisions based upon the monthly reporting and CVR process.
  • Review the client reporting process.

  • Adherence to the schedule of reporting

Client Focus
  • Discussing and resolving day-to-day issues with clients.

  • Maintaining a professional relationship with all clients and subcontractors.

/ Experience (Essential)
  • 5 years relevant QS experience in the commercial/construction sector of the industry.
  • Has experience of managing their own projects
  • Competent IT skills

Experience (Desirable)
  • Experienced in commercial negotiation
  • Effective communication skills

Qualifications (Essential)
  • BSC QS or HNC Construction (or equivalent knowledge and experience.)
  • CSCS Manager

Qualifications (Desirable)
  • RICS (or working towards)
