Scholarship List…Please be aware that many scams appear each year attempting to get families to pay for information that is free. Specifically, families are targeted by “scholarship companies” that promise to complete FAFSA applications and/or guarantee scholarships for a fee (often as much as $1500).Scholarship information is available for free at the high school, colleges and on the internet. Free information concerning the FAFSA is available on the internet. See the websites listed above for more information.

LeTendre Education Fund Scholarship: The National Association for the Education of Homeless Children and Youth provides scholarship assistance to students who are homeless or have experienced homelessness through the LeTendre Education Fund for Homeless Children.The application is available at Due September 12th

Alpha Beautillion: The mission of the Alpha Beautillion Program, as sponsored by the BNL Foundation, is to assist college bound seniors within Charlotte and surrounding areas in preparing them for college, securing scholarship funding and presenting them to their local community at a formal event.See Ms. Newman for the application. Anthony Foxx Scholars Program: Any senior male that is interested in attending college, see Ms. Newman to complete a form. If the student attends any UNC-System school or CPCC they will receive $1000 from the Anthony Foxx Scholarship Program.

William H. and Elizabeth Gray Danforth Scholars Program at Washington Universiy: Candidates for this program will exhibit leadership, service and academic excellence and will embrace the challege of a rigrorous academic curriculum. If you are interested, see Ms. Newman

Horatio Alger Scholarship Program: Seniors planning to attend college in the Fall 2010, demonstrate financial need, are involved in extra-curricular activities including community service, have demonstrated integrity and perseverance in overcoming adversity and have a minimum GPA of 2.0 may apply for this award. Students may apply online by October 30, 2011 at and click on Apply Now.

Wendy’s High School Heisman Athletic Award: Beginning this year, high school senior athletes may nominate themselves for this award on-line. Applicants must have at least a “B” average and participate in at least one of the 33 sports officially sanctioned by the National Federation of State High Schools. QuestBridge College Match: Announces the launch of the 2011 National College Match program, which continues assists high-achieving low-income students in gaining admission and full four-year scholarships to leading colleges. Last year, more than 1,000 QuestBridge applicants gained admission to our partner colleges with generous financial aid. 260 of these students received College Match scholarships covering the following costs: full cost of tuition (up to $40,000 per year) & full cost of room and board (up to $15,000 per year). Coca-Cola Scholars: Applicant must be a current high school senior attending school in the United States or one of the following: U.S. Citizen; U.S. National; U.S. Permanent Resident; Temporary Resident (legalization program); Refugee; Asylee; Cuban-Haitian Entrant; or Humanitarian Parolee. Applicant must be anticipating completion of high school diploma in May 2012, carry a minimum 3.00 GPA at the end of his/her junior year of high school and must be planning to pursue a degree at an accredited U.S. post-secondary institution. Applicants may NOT be children or grandchildren of employees, officers or owners of Coca-Cola bottling companies, The Coca-Cola Company or any bottler or Company divisions or subsidiaries. Ron Brown Scholarship: The Ron Brown Scholar Program seeks to identify African-American high school seniors who will make significant contributions to society. Applicants must excel academically, exhibit exceptional leadership potential, participate in community service activities and demonstrate financial need. The applicant must be a US citizen or hold a permanent resident visa card.Application materials must be mailed in one packet. Transcripts and letters of recommendation should not be sent under separate cover. Incomplete, e-mailed or faxed applications will not be considered.November 1st - application will be considered for the Ron Brown Scholar Program AND forwarded to a select and limited number of additional scholarship providers.

NC State University –Parks Scholarship: The mission of the Park Scholarships program is to bring exceptional students to NC State, based on outstanding accomplishments and potential in scholarship, leadership, service, and character. The program develops and supports Park Scholarseir in these areas, preparing them for lifelong contributions to the campus, state, nation, and world.Students must be nominated by their school guidance counselor or they can self-nominate. Delta Sigma Theta Sororiy Inc.: Debutante Cotillion: The Charlotte Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Incorporated is hosting the Debutante Cotillion. All young ladies who are seniors and demonstrate exemplary moral standard with a GPA of 2.5 or higher should apply by September 30th. All documents must received by this date. If you wish to be advised as a pre-professional (pre-law, pre-med, etc.), you should choose an appropriate academic major. Selecting NC State's First Year College is a good choice if you haven't decided; you'll be able to explore your options before declaring a major your sophomore year.
