AAMU Faculty Senate Meeting –27 March 2014
The Alabama Agricultural and Mechanical University Faculty Senate met on Thursday, March 27, 2014,in room 322 Carter/Chambers Hall. Faculty Senate President Jeanette Jones called the meeting to order at 12:45 p.m. with the establishment of a quorum.
Senators Present: Dr. Jeanette Jones, Dr. Joshua Herring, Dr. Halima Quershi, Dr. Jifeng Mu, Dr. Eric Ohene-Nyako, Dr. Nareatha Studdard, Major Tina Hill-Miller, Ms. Esther Phillips-Ross, Dr. Mira Kruja, Dr. Lynne Edmondson, Dr. Delores Price, Dr. Thelma Townsend, Dr. Mohammad Alim, Dr. Sudip Bhattacharjee, Dr. Kamala Bhat, and Ms. Rhonda Lang
Reading of the Agenda
Motion: Approval of the agenda
Action: The agenda was approved. The motion was carried with majority vote.
Meditation: Senator Delores Price presented a meditation and offered a prayer. The meditation’s theme was “Living in the Present.”

President’s Report
The Alabama Agricultural and Mechanical University Faculty Senate President Jeanette Jones provided brief updates concerning the AAMU Board of Trustees meetings for February 27-28, 2014 along with a review of Higher Education Day at the Capitol and its importance that AAMU was represented. She then turned the body’s attention to the letter of appreciation for President Hugine concerning the two percent raise that the body had agreed should be drafted. The discussion then centered on rightful activities/honors for deceased member Senator Mostafa Dokanian. The AAMU calendar was also discussed. Senator Corine Williams did receive an official copy of the mentoring plan. This will be reviewed this summer.
Standing Committees
Academic Affairs: Senator Esther Phillips-Ross provided brief updates concerning the University calendar and reported to the body that corrections and clarifications must be made concerning the beginning and ending of the academic year so that those corresponding dates could correctly reflect faculty contracts. In addition, her report covered the issue concerning correct beginning dates for classes in the fall and spring semesters 2014-2015. Senator Ross also reported faculty concerns about the AAMU spring break corresponding with the city and county schools in the area.
The meeting was adjourned at approximately 1:50 p.m.
