Dear Parents,
Welcome to the third grade at Moates! We are so pleased to have your child{ren} with us this year. We are going to have a fantastic year of learning together.
There are many exciting items to study such as the Solar System, Ecosystems, Multiplication, Division, the history of Early America {Revolutionary Period}, community, and reading comprehension above all else. When children can read, they will succeed. Our focus will be understanding through thinking it through in every subject. This will be an extraordinary year of reading growth for your child. Please help your child by having him/her read many different kinds of materials at home. We will provide you with regular updates along the way.
Here are the basic policies/procedures/information to be familiar with regarding rules:
I will show respect for myself, teachers and students by:
a)Keeping hands, feet, and other objects to myself.
b)Listening and following directions the first time.
c)Talking at appropriate times and with an appropriate tone after being recognized.
d)Doing my work to the best of my ability.
Rewards and surprises will be used to motivate proper respect and desired behavior. The discipline plan below is the guideline for consequences of unwanted and inappropriate behavior. In addition, student and parent conferences may be called to discuss both desired and undesired behavior.

Late work will have points deducted.
- STAAR: Math and ReadingSTAAR tests should be passed by each student to show they have the skills necessary to move on to the next grade level. Any student not passing either test will be recommended for summer school at the end of the year. More information will be provided as the year progresses. Feel free to visit the Texas Education Agency website to view detailed expectations of each test, samples of each test, and interactive tests for your child to practice with at home.
The test dates for the 2015-2016 school year are as follows:

If you have any further questions, please feel free to notify your child’s teacher by phone or e-mail. For your convenience in communication, the phone number is on the front page at the top and your child’s teacher has an e-mail address as well. Third grade teachers have a conference time every day between 9:45-10:30. Sometimes those slots will be filled, so please let your teacher know in advance if you would like an appointment.
