Announcement of

APT Young Professionals and Students Programme (APTYPS) for 2016

Background:

In order to encourage young professionals and students from APT member countries to develop their skills on Information and Communication Technologies (ICTs), the Asia-Pacific Telecommunity (APT) has established the APT Young Professional and Students Programme (APTYPS) in 2003, and organized 12 forum/programmes in the past in the different Member countries of the APT. After some time break, the APT Secretariat is inspiring the programme with new stimulus this year with approval of its decision making body.

This year APTYPS programme is being organized in cooperation with The Ministry of Information and Communication (MICT), Thailand, with a theme “Digital Economy/ICT and Its Impact to Thai Society”. The overall aim of this year programme is to encourage young professionals and students from Affiliate members of APT in Thailand and Universities in Thailand for developing their ICT skills, so to contribute significantly for implementation of “Digital Thailand 2016” policy by the Government of the Thailand.

Objectives:

The specific objectives of APTYPS include:

  • To disseminate knowledge about developments in the ICT sector and to encourage young professionals and students to actively participate in promoting the application of ICT;
  • To draw upon the enthusiasm and skill of young professionals and students for various activities concerning the development of ICT;
  • To provide a platform to discuss special issues of interest to the young professionals and students;
  • To raise awareness among the professionals and students from the Asia-Pacific region about APT activities;
  • To encourage them to make voluntary contributions to the APT activities;
  • To build up a future resource base for the benefit of the APT members;
  • To encourage women in the ICT and contribute gender mainstreaming.

Arrangement:

This year programme is intended to be “Essay and Presentation Competition. Sub-topics under the theme can be varied, but it’s strongly recommended to look at the “Digital Thailand 2016” policy, and to get a reference from it.

As such, thesub-topics can be following, but not limited to:

  1. Development of Infrastructure – Connectivity
  2. Development of Economy – By Startup and SME
  3. Development of Digital Society – Education, life-long education
  4. Development of Digital Government
  5. Development of Digital Workforce
  6. Development of Law and Regulation including Cybersecurity

Competition shall be divided into 2 categories and qualifications for each category are as follows:

1)for young professionals; and

2)for university students;

Age limit by 31 Aug. 2016 / Under 30 / Under 25
Degree level / Any / Any (during the course of Bachelor, Master and Ph.D.)

The key requirements and steps are:

  • An individual or team (2-3 members) can apply for the competition in each respective category;
  • Those who submit their application form for participation;
  • Under the main theme of “Digital Economy/ICT and Its Impact to Thai Society”, applicant should choose 1 topic for the essay and PPT from 6 main strategies of “Digital Thailand 2016” policy but not limited to it;
  • The essay should be typed in Microsoft/Apple word format within 1,000 – 1,500 words and submitted to the APT Secretariat in softcopy in due date;
  • Copyright will be retained by the APT(if required so) for submitted literary works;
  • Those who are selected through assessment process will be invited for the presentation competition (MS PPT format with length of 15 mins and 5 mins for Q&A);
  • The presentation competition will be taken place during 14-17 November 2016. The detailed schedule and location will be announced to those who selected as candidates for presentation competitionat later stage.

Important deadlines:

  • Evaluation result by Assessment Committee of APT by 28 October 2016;
  • Only short listed 3 candidates in each categories will be selected for presentation competition by 28 October 2016.

The awarding ceremony will be held at ITU Telecom World (14-17 November 2016, Impact, Muang Thong Thani).

Awards:

The best 3 essays/presentations in each category (total 6) will be selected for:

  • The 1st place prize: 12,000 Thai Baht;
  • The 2nd place prize: 8,000 Thai Baht;
  • The 3rd place prize: 4,000 Thai Baht;

Note:Additional prize would be given including Internship opportunities
