Medford School District Mission
We are a high-quality teaching and learning organization dedicated to preparing all students to graduate with a sound educational foundation, ready to succeed in post-secondary education, and to be contributing community members.
Lone Pine Elementary Mission
As a Lone Pine community, we are dedicated to creating and building upon a successful educational foundation while encouraging students to become safe, responsible, and respectful.
Lone Pine School History
Dating back to the 1850's, Lone Pine School has historically been a focus of leadership and excellence throughout Jackson County. A one-room building with white, shiplap siding and a red roof became the Red Top School of 1887, located on the hill along Lone Pine Road. The school, replacing small isolated structures from nearby sites, was also known and registered as Lone Pine School because of one lone pine tree in front of the fenced schoolyard.
From this typically rural American beginning has grown one of the largest and certainly one of the most respected elementary schools in the Medford area. The present sprawling campus of Lone Pine School overlooks a panoramic view of the Rogue Valley.
The Lone Pine staff has traditionally encouraged high academic goals to help set the pace of high standards of excellence in the Medford School District. Our students are not only nurtured toward academic excellence within the classroom but also through participation in extra-curricular events throughout the year. Lone Pine students have the opportunity to compete in the Geography Bee, Math League Press, Oregon Battle of the Books and a variety of other academic endeavors throughout the year. The overwhelming success and high attendance rates at our school barbeque, the Fall Fair and Celebration of Learning events also exemplify the tremendous parental and community support Lone Pine has long enjoyed.
The 32 students registered long ago in the Red Top School surely felt proud of their school and the strong parental influence that gave it a place of importance in their community. Through years of changes in buildings and enrollments, the larger and more encompassing Lone Pine School of today mirrors the same pride. Lone Pine School continues to kindle the spirit of learning and leadership that fuels a bright future for us all.

ATTENDANCE
Regular attendance (92% or greater) is expected at Lone Pine School. As in any occupation, it is important that your student “be on the job” each day, in order to receive maximum benefit from instruction and to develop responsibility. Excessive absences are a main cause of poor grades, disconnect from peers and lack of motivation and success in school. Students need to be in class at 7:50 a.m. in order to put items away and be ready at 7:55 a.m. for when instruction begins.
If your student is going to be absent, please call the school office at 541-842-3820 before 7:45 a.m. Because of new state law, we will be calling you, if we don’t hear from you before this time. This number is available 24 hours a day, if leaving a message after hours please state your name, your students name and the reason for the absence. This is for the safety of your student. You should also request homework at this time, if your student will be out of school for more than one day. Homework requested before 9:00 a.m. will be ready in the office after 2:45 p.m. Please review the ‘Student Awards’ section (in the District Handbook) regarding attendance awards.
Please try to schedule appointments before or after school hours. All absences effect your student’s ability to stay caught up in school. It also effects your student’s connectedness to friends and teachers which has a significant impact on their school performance as well. These absences effect our overall state school rating.
STUDENTS LEAVING EARLY IN THE SCHOOL DAY
LEAVING DURING SCHOOL HOURS
It is in your student’s best educational interest to schedule appointments outside the school day. If your student must be picked up early, please send a note with your student, preferably a day before the expected departure. Upon your arrival we will gladly call your student to the office to meet you.
For safety and security reasons:
Parents are not to pick up their student from the classroom during the school day.
Instead, please go to the office and notify the office staff.
The office staff will send for your student to meet you in the office, while you sign them out. In order to maximize class time, students will be called to the office when parents arrive to sign them out, not before.
Only parent-authorized persons are allowed to pick up students. We will ask for photo ID for anyone we have not worked with regularly. Thank you for your cooperation in this safety issue.
PARENT INVOLVEMENT ENCOURAGED
The PTO (Parent-Teacher Organization) develops and maintains a good working relationship between parents and educators. They support the staff efforts to provide the best academic, physical, and social opportunities for each student at Lone Pine Elementary School. The PTO provides funds for educational opportunities which otherwise may not be made available through normal school funding. These funds support the purchase of computers, software, audio/visual and classroom supplies, curriculum enhancement programs, and presentations by various organizations such as OMSI (Oregon Museum of Science and Industry), Newport Aquarium, NASA, and buses for field trips. Events sponsored by the PTO include the Fall Fair, Birthday Table, Family Skate Nights, Adopt-a-Family Holiday Program, Celebration of Learning, and the Teacher Appreciation Luncheon. For the convenience of Lone Pine parents, the PTO publishes a free school directory. The accomplishments of the PTO are a tribute to the commitment of Lone Pine parents. Working together, we enhance the educational and social experiences of our Lone Pine students.
Consult our web site ( for an up-to-date list of PTO board and committee members.
PTO meetings are held the second Thursday of each month at 6:00 p.m. in the Media Center. All parents are encouraged to attend. Call our PTO: President, Katy Impert 541-601-3396, or Vice President, Ginny Johnson 541-245-6242. See Wildcat Newsletter for updates.
VISITING OR VOLUNTEERING (VIM) CLASSROOMS
VISTING: For the safety of our students all volunteers and visitors must sign-in and out at the main office and receive a sticker. School gates are locked at 7:55 and will not re-open until 2:25 therefore, parents and visitors MUST come into the office and sign in/out to have access to our campus. Non-personnel on campus without a sticker may be asked to leave or go to the office to sign-in. Thank you for your cooperation in keeping our school safe.
VIM VOLUNTEERS: Refer to District Handbook. Pick up VIM forms in school office at the start of each year.
SCHOOLWIDE COMMUNICATION
PHONE CALLS AND MESSAGES
Students and staff are trained to leave messages when calling parents. Please check your voice mail prior to calling Lone Pine. Most students call from the classroom and the office staff will be unable to tell you who called or why.
SCHOOL NEWSLETTER – Very important communication
Watch for theWildcatnewsletter that is sent home with your student every week. Check with your student’s classroom teacher to find out his or her particular distribution day. It contains up-to-date important school-related information. If you do not receive one, there are extras available in the office each week. You also can access current news and the Wildcaton this web site,
E-MAIL TEACHERS
You can email your student’s teacher by using this format: .
Example:
PARENT-TEACHER COMMUNICATION
If you would to conference with your student’s teacher during the school year, please phone or email the teacher to set up a time. Planning time for teachers is generally from 2:35-3:15/3:30. Therefore it is helpful to pre-arrange meetings so that they are able to ensure completion of their classroom planning in a timely manner as well as give parents their full attention while meeting together.
“TRACKS” to SUCCESS
Lone Pine staff teaches your student the TRACKS to Success as a part of our Medford School District 549C Skills for Success curriculum. Below are the Lone Pine TRACKS to Success. Please take time to discuss the TRACKS with your student and help your student to practice them at home. When your student practices these principles, he/she will be successful at school and hopefully will make them a part of everyday life.
Take / For your learningResponsibility / For your behavior
Always / With adults
Cooperate / With other students
Keep / Keep a positive attitude
Smiling / Deal with problems in a positive way
Lone Pine follows a Positive Behavior Intervention Supports (PBIS) philosophy. All staff and students at Lone Pine School will work together to help each other reach their fullest potential.
Everyone will be treated with respect and dignity.
Any feasible/reasonable behavior or action that helps someone grow and mature will be encouraged.
Staff will keep students focused on our three school rules:
Be Safe
Be Respectful
Be Responsible
STAFF GUIDELINES FOR TEACHING STUDENT RESPONSIBILITY
All staff members contribute to Lone Pine’s positive environment. We set the tone through our actions and attitudes. Our support for students (and each other) will be demonstrated through four important procedures:
- We will teach students our expectations for responsible behavior in every school environment.
- We will provide positive feedback to students when they are meeting expectations and following guidelines for success.
- When minor misbehavior occurs, staff will view the misbehavior as a teaching opportunity, responding with calm, consistent corrections or consequences.
- We will work collaboratively to solve problems that are chronic or severe in nature.
LONE PINE STUDENT BEHAVIOR
Student safety and learning are Lone Pine’s highest priorities for our students. Lone Pine staff teaches (and re-teaches as necessary) the procedures, expectations and rules that will allow our students to be successful in their educational endeavors. Our rules and expectations fall within three main categories: being safe, being respectful, and being responsible. Learning and following these expectations and safety standards will aid in all students’ successful learning process.
Students are expected to follow the directions of a supervisor, whether the supervisor is a classroom teacher, another staff member, a substitute teacher, or a parent volunteer.
CLASSROOM RULES:
~Each teacher will have a plan for student behavior in the classroom. The rules are posted in the room. A copy of the homeroom rules will be given to students, parents, and principal.
~All students will be taught the all-school rules and what is safe, respectful and responsible behavior before and after school, on buses, in the restrooms and cafeteria, and on the playground.
TO MAKE LONE PINE A SAFE PLACE
Students will get along and problem-solve disagreements without physical contact.
Students will leave distracting and dangerous items at home (knives, chains, lasers, toys, electronics, etc.).
Students will play in a manner that respects everyone’s health.
