A RESOLUTION adjourning the House of Representatives in loving memory and honor of James A. "Jim" Hill.
WHEREAS, with deepest respect and admiration, we pay homage and tribute to James A. "Jim" Hill, and we pause in silent reverence for his soul.
WHEREAS, James A. "Jim" Hill was born on June 8, 1941, a native of Wayne County, Kentucky, and he traversed these earthly bounds on April 12, 1999; and
WHEREAS, James A. "Jim" Hill was the loving son of the late Alford Hill and the late Ora Bell Hill; he was the devoted husband of nineteen years of Mary Brumley Hill; he was the loving father of a son, James Lynn Hill; and the loving brother of three sisters, Joan Vaughn of McCreary County, and Phyllis Burke and Linda Branscum of Franklin, Indiana; and he was the proud grandfather of two grandchildren; and
WHEREAS, James A. "Jim" Hill served his constituents with pride as Sheriff of Wayne County from 1977 to 1981, and from 1985 until the time of his passing; he was a friend to many, and he was fondly compared to the legendary "Walking Tall" Sheriff Buford T. Pusser because of his narrow escapes from death and his law enforcement abilities; and after surviving several shooting attempts on his life in which he gained notoriety, he was among a few sheriffs in the nation to be honored in Carbo's Police Museum in Pigeon Forge, Tennessee, where the uniform he was wearing at the time of one of the attempts on his life, as well as his Sheriff's badge, his photograph and several articles in local and state newspapers about the event were inducted into the Police Museum in 1981; and in 1980, he was included in "Who's Who in American Law Enforcement," which was published by the National Association of Chiefs of Police; and
WHEREAS, James A. "Jim" Hill will be remembered as an active and involved citizen, and a highly esteemed member of the Wayne County community, where he was a devout member of Mount Zion Baptist Church; he served his country with distinction in the United States Army; he was a member of Monticello Masonic Lodge #431, the Kentucky Sheriff's Association, the National Sheriff's Association, and he was a member of the Honorable Order of Kentucky Colonels; and
WHEREAS, the passing of James A. "Jim" Hill has left a void that will be difficult to fill, and he is mourned across the length and breadth of the Commonwealth;
NOW, THEREFORE,
Be it resolved by the House of Representatives of the General Assembly of the Commonwealth of Kentucky:

Section 1. The House of Representatives does hereby express its utter sense of bereavement and loss upon the passing of James A. "Jim" Hill, and extends to his family and many friends its most profound and deepest sympathy.
Section 2. When the House of Representatives adjourns this day, it does so in loving memory and honor of James A. "Jim" Hill.
Section 3. The Clerk of the House of Representatives is hereby directed to transmit a copy of this Resolution to Mrs. Mary Brumley Hill, 630 Albany Road, Monticello, Kentucky 42633.
