Strengthen Our Party Base: Become a Precinct Delegate!
Delegates are allocated by County or Congressional District (by District in the case of Oakland) based upon votes, by precinct, for the Democratic Party Secretary of State in the last election. Precinct Delegates are a sign of the strength of the Democratic Party. Our NODC goal is to field Precinct Delegate candidates for 100% of our area’s allocated slots in 2010! We need delegates in each of the 63 precincts in our club area. There are typically two or three delegate slots for every precinct and our goal is to fill all of the slots.
To become a precinct delegate, complete the included Precinct Delegate Affidavit of Identity (your signature must be notarized either at the Clerk’s office, or at a credit union or bank) and submit the affidavit either to the Oakland County Democratic Party, your local Township Clerk, or the Oakland County Clerk’s office before May 11 at 4 PM. The sooner you file the better! Election Day for Precinct Delegates is the August 3rd Primary. If you are uncontested on the ballot, you only need one vote (yours) to win. If contested, you simply need one more vote than the other person(s) to win. Precinct Delegates can and should take responsibility to help organize their precinct however this is optional by Michigan Democratic Party rules . Phil Reid (NODC Chair) has a Notary Public Commission, so you can have your application notarized at one of our meetings or events.
Now is the time to join or renew your NODC membership: Support opening a local GOTV office
Membership is on an annual basis. Membership dues enable our club to pay for event fees, postage, suppliers, etc.
We need your support! This year we plan to open a “Get Out The Vote” (GOTV) office in our club area for the months of August, September, and October, leading up to the critical 2010 election on November 2. To do this we will need a variety of things for an office, but the main thing is to raise the funds to secure a location. Your membership in the NODC is one of the best ways you can support this goal. Thanks to the following new and renewing members in March and April: Bill Bishop, Margaret Carmen, Rasesh Desai, Gerald and Annette Freedman, Patrick Howse, Jose Munoz, Lora Perkins, Sherrie VandePutte, Ron Wasczenski, Jennifer Watry which brings us to 66 2010 members!
April 10 kickoff for “Adopt A Road” community service project in Orion Township: Join us next time! The NODC has joined the Oakland County “Adopt A Road” Program. We are maintaining the very well-traveled section of Brown Rd between Jocelyn and Baldwin Rd in Orion Twp. – and our first activity was April 10 from noon to 3 pm. Thanks to Heather Muzzy, Kevin Church, Patrick Howse, and Phil Reid for participating. We collected 21 bags of trash, and could have done more with a few more volunteers. Special thanks to Heather Muzzy for coordinating and bringing her family to help! Our next pickup is July 10, from 8:30 am to 11:30 am. We plan to stop by Applebees for lunch afterward. Join us!
Looking for office space for our GOTV project
We are currently looking for an office space in our club area, if you are aware of building we should check out, please let us know. We are also looking for places where the building owner is in the area, so if you know of a building and building owner in the Orion or Clarkston area (our target area), please let us know. You can email us via .
