CDSSA Aims and Objectives
The activities of the CDSSA shall reflect the values and ethos common to the member schools and reinforce the appropriate components of their sports. The CDSSA has a unique opportunity to develop in its students the values, attitudes and skills aimed at promoting a healthy and balanced lifestyle among all children.
The CDSSA will provide students with an opportunity for representation beyond their individual school competitions. The CDSSA will provide students with an opportunity to experience the process of team trials, selection, training and competition.
The CDSSA aims to develop in students;
A)A sense of their own worth and dignity
B)Respect for the values, religious and cultural beliefs and attitudes of others
C)Self Discipline and a sense of responsibility aspiring from team membership
D)An appreciation for positive social interaction and friendship between schools
E)Their physical potential through participation and training for the CDSSA
F)An appreciation for the principles of sportsmanship, fair play, generosity and the recognition of the talent of others.

1. Code of Conduct
CDSSA CODE OF CONDUCT
Students:
When in attendance at a carnival or interschool sporting competition, all students whether competing or as a spectator, should behave in a way that reflects the principles of sportsmanship. In particular;
- Competing in accordance with the rules.
- Refraining from the use of bad language.
- Refraining from arguing or insolence with teachers or officials, and abiding by all decisions made. It is permissible for a student to seek clarification an a ruling when appropriate and in a respectful manner.
- Wear the correct school / association uniform when competing.
- Participate in a manner that promotes the safety of oneself and other players.
Teachers:
When in attendance at a carnival or interschool sporting competition, all teachers should behave in a way that reflects the principles of sportsmanship. In particular;
- Act as an appropriate role model for all students, spectators and parents alike.
- Monitor the correct behaviour of both team members and spectators of those associated with their school.
Parents and Spectators:
When in attendance at a carnival or interschool sporting competition, all parents and spectators should behave in a way that reflects the principles of sportsmanship. In particular;
- Be advised of the regulations regarding their behaviour by the teacher from the school that their child represents.
- Refraining from arguing or insolence with teachers or officials, and abiding by all decisions made. If a parent wishes to query the decision of an official, then they may do so through the staff member associated with their child.
- Must remain in the area set aside for spectators and not encroach upon the areas for officials or students participating in the sport.
- Must ensure that barracking is of a positive and enthusiastic nature and never derogatory any player or official.
- Must accept that the Referee/Event Convenor has the authority to challenge any spectator who does not comply with the above statements.
Officials:
When in attendance at a carnival or interschool sporting competition, all officials should behave in a way that reflects the principles of sportsmanship. In particular;
- Be fully acquainted with the responsibilities of the job and its management’s procedures.
- Conduct all events in a positive and encouraging manner.
- Abide by all referee and match official decisions.
- Should seek to inform a player of the reason for any disqualification where appropriate.
APPENDIX
2. Constitution
CDSSA CONSTITUTION
- Objectives
a)To initiate, promote, organise and manage interschool sporting activities for the students of member schools. Only students who are bona fide students in Years 7 – 12 of the affiliated schools may participate in the competitions.
b)To encourage and promote interschool competition that is both challenging and rewarding.
c)To foster enthusiasm and interest in sport whilst promoting school spirit and sportsmanship.
d)To provide opportunities for students to gain access to higher levels of competition.
e)To provide quality relationships amongst students, teachers, coaches, schools and the wider community.
- Membership
a)The association will consist of the following schools;
Galstaun College
Heritage Christadelphian School
International Football School
International Grammar School
McDonald College
Moriah College
The Emanuel School
The Pittwater House Schools
Youth off the Streets School
b)The membership of the association would ideally be limited to 8 schools.
c)The CDSSA Executive (as defined in Article 4) will recommend any new members to the Principals group for ratification.
d)Applications for new memberships must be forwarded to the Chairperson of the association in writing.
e)The CDSSA Executive alone shall have the right to exclude existing member schools. Schools may be excluded if they fail to meet the requirements of the association.
f)Schools wishing to resign their membership from the association should give the association as much notice as possible. A period of six months would be considered reasonable.
g)No member school retiring from the association or ceasing to have the necessary qualifications to be affiliated, shall have any claim whatever upon any property, money or other assets of the association.
- Obligations of Membership
a)Member schools will support the aims and objectives of the CDSSA.
b)Member schools will make students available for selection to AICES and CIS teams. AICES is the sole channel for representative selection to CIS in sports provided by CDSSA.
c)Member schools will ensure financial commitments are met. These include CDSSA, AICES and CIS levies as a package. The CDSSA affiliation fee will be determined by the CDSSA executive and will be reviewed annually. AICES and CIS fees will be determined by those organisations.
d)Member schools will supply a proportional number of officials to assist the convening and officiating of sporting events.
e)Member schools will assist with the administration of the CDSSA as directed by the CDSSA Executive.
- Executive
a)The association shall have Executive consisting of Sports Coordinators of the member schools (consultation with the respective Principals will be protocol in the decision making process).
b)The association will elect a Chairperson, Secretary, Treasurer and Delegate to AICES/CIS who will be either a principal or Sports Coordinator of a member school.
c)The association is to elect a principal to act in the capacity of a support mechanism for the CDSSA executive.
- Organising Committee
a)The association shall have an organising committee which shall consist of the Sports Coordinators or a nominated representative of each of the member schools.
b)The organising committee shall be responsible for the organisation of all sporting activities of the association, as per the by-laws of each sport.
c)The secretary shall attend all meetings and write and circulate minutes.
d)The organising committee shall draft and update laws governing all sports played officially in the association.
e)The organising committee will appoint convenors to attend to all the detail involved in running individual sports. In some sports some responsibilities could be shared by more than school.
f)Such convenors as referred to above shall be immediately responsible to the organising committee.
g)The position of Treasurer will be allocated by nomination annually – as per other positions. The Treasurer should only have one other duty during that year. The roles of Chairperson, Secretary and Treasurer must be separate roles within the organisation.
- Meetings
a)The association shall meet each term to ensure the smooth running and good conduct of the association.
b)Meetings shall be held at member schools on a rotating basis and commence at 10am.
- Voting and Motions
a)Member schools shall constitute a quorum. The majority shall rule.
b)All member schools are entitled to one vote.
c)For a motion to be carried, a simple majority shall be required. Motions are to be put forth through the association Chairperson.
- Duties of the Association of Chairperson, Secretary, and Treasurer
a)Take and circulate minutes of all meetings
b)Give adequate notice of meetings, complete with agenda and notices of motions. All association information is to be forwarded to each school via the Sports Coordinator by the Secretary.
c)Maintain the association finances, pay all approved accounts and render an up to date financial statement to the executive at the AGM.
d)Maintain complete official records of competitions.
9. Duties of the Convenors
a)Coordinate all official sporting activities of their sport, in respect, inter alia, of grounds/venues, referees/umpires, officials, scoring, programs, budgets, and competition rules – at all times working with the by laws of the sport.
b)Convenors should provide detailed written report at the conclusion of the event outlining; sports results, costs, facilities, recommendations and general comments.
c)To provide trophies/certificates where required.
d)Check that Risk assessments are up to date and relevant
e)Obtain risk assessment from venue
f)Ensure there are qualified and experienced referees at all events
g)Convenors need to complete risk assessment for all events
h)Convenors to check venues prior to and on day of event for suitability
Team managers from individual schools must check venue as well for any safety concerns
10. Child Protection
CDSSA abides by the Child Protection Legislation
All matters involving Child Protection must be referred to the Principal Chair, both verbally and in writing.
11. Disputes
a)Disputes are to be brought forward to the executive committee as soon as possible in writing.
b)The disputes shall be heard and resolved by the executive. The convenor of the sport in question, will be required to give advice and in the process of resolving the dispute.
c)For serious disputes or those involving parents, the dispute will be resolved by the group of Principals.
12. Monies
a)All monies derived from the various activities of the association shall be placed in one account to be drawn on jointly by the Treasurer and the association Chairperson.
b)The executive will determine the levy charge to be paid by member schools each year. Levies must be paid by the member school.
c)The association shall be non-profit and such any interest or excess monies at the end of the financial year shall be carried over for ongoing costs of the association.
d)The annual levy on all member schools is set at $7.15 per child.
13. Constitution
a)This constitution may be amended, added to or replaced only by the executive in accordance with procedures laid down in the constitution of the association.
14. CDSSA Selection Policy
a)Only students who participate in a trial will be eligible for representative selection. As a general policy, selector’s decision will be final.
b)Applications for exemption from this policy must be made to the Convenor of that particular sport 48 hours prior to the holding of the relevant selection event.
c)As a general rule injury will not be a satisfactory request.
d)Every student who attends a trial must be given equal opportunity to demonstrate his or her skill.
e)In team sports, as a general rule, there will be a panel of selectors of at least three.
f)Staff and coaches not involved in the selection process are not to discuss their own players’ ability with the selectors.
g)Whenever possible the team will be announced at the conclusion of the trial.
h)Where possible the strongest team will be selected to represent the association.
i)Principal’s to sign and keep a copy of the contract to ensure that the student’s selected will honour their commitment.
j)If a child does not play a sport at school level, they can only trial for representative teams if they currently play at club level.
15. CDSSA Accident Policy
a)Stop play

d)Send for the Duty First Aid Officer
e)For suspected Head, Neck, and Spinal Injuries
f)A qualified and independent first aid person is to attend all CDSSA events
- Do not move the casualty
- Do not administer food or drink
- Ring for an Ambulance
- Notify school and parents
g)It is association policy to contact parents where medical attention is required.
h)If the child needs to go to hospital they must be accompanied by an adult, preferably a teacher of the casualties’ school.
i)A school accident report form must be completed and kept on file.
