Task 1 – Complete a children’s crossword
Attach the crossword to this booklet.
Which clue did you find the hardest?
Create your own Maths crossword. You may want to think about important vocabulary for different topics. You can use pictures and number sentences to accompany your clues.
Task 2 – Read an act from a playscript
What was the title of your play?
Who were the key characters ?
What are the differences between a playscript and a story?
What happened in the act that you read?
Task 3 – read non-fiction book about the Planet
Write full sentences about 5 facts you have learnt from reading this book.
Task 4 – Read a book from your parent/grandparent’s childhood
Interview your parents and/or grandparents about their favourite book as a child.
Record the questions and the answers they gave. Then read that book.
Task 5 – Read a wordless picture book
Choose a picturebook without any words and read it several times.
How can you read a book with no words?

Task 6 – Read a Michael Morpurgo book
Look at the front cover. Predict what you think might happen and why.
Which Michael Morpurgo book did you read?
Who are the main characters? Use 3 adjectives to describe each of them.
What are the main ideas of the book? (Love, friendship, war, conflict, peace) etc.
Task 7 – Read some directions
Where were the directions leading you to?
Use a dictionary to find the meaning of the word ‘preposition’. List as many as you can underneath.
Write your own clear instructions to take you from one place to another in your house or garden. Test them out on a family member. Can they get there safely? Write your instructions below.
Task 8 – Read an ‘on this day’ article
On the BBC news website it informs you of events that happened on the day you’re researching but years ago. Use the link and find out about an interesting event in history.
Task 9 – Read a fairytale from another culture
These can be found on the internet.
Read the fairytale from another culture and then the fairytale as we know it. Compare the two by using a table to show the similarities and differences. Add any of your own opinions too.
