Thank you for your interest in the post of Teacher of Business at The Piggott School. We are an extremely successful, oversubscribed and happy co-educational Academy. Our senior school site is located on the outskirts of Wargrave and our primary school site is in the village of Charvil.

The Piggott School was established in 1939 and, together with our primary site at Charvil, we are an all-through 4-18, mixed, comprehensive school with a higher than average ability intake. The Piggott School senior site has 1260 students and 170 staff. The successful candidate will join a very successful Business and Economics department based at our Wargrave site.

The Business and Economics department has a history of very strong results over a sustained period of many years at both Key Stage 4 and 5. In 2016, 77% of pupils achieved a grade C or above at GCSE, with 80% making at least 3 levels of progress {SIG+}. A-Level Business was ALPS4, with 79% of students achieving A*-C. A-Level Economics was ALPS4 with 88% of students achieving A*-C. CTEC Level 3 Business results were also excellent, with all students achieving a Merit or above and the majority of students above their target grade.

The department consists of a team of 5 full time and specialist Business and Economics teachers with a wealth of experience as well as innovative teaching methods. The successful candidate would join us in January 2017 or as soon as possible thereafter.

The department is located on the first floor of the new Sixth Form building. There are 4 dedicated Business and Economics teaching rooms, each of which has a SMARTboard installed. Three of the classrooms have a full suite of computers that classes can use. In addition, there is a trolley of laptops that students can access. The school also employs an administration assistant who assists the department under the direction of the Head of Business. There is a full fitness suite which is available to staff to use free of charge. All teaching staff are provided with tablet devices and laptops.

GCSE Business Studies is taught from Year 9 at The Piggott School, with routinely four classes in Years 9, 10 and 11 (around 100 pupils in each year group). Pupils in Years 10 and 11 are studying Edexcel GCSE Applied Business, whilst the new cohort of Year 9 are studying the new AQA GCSE Business.

In the Sixth Form, the Business and Economics department is extremely popular. We usually have two classes of A-Level Business in the Sixth Form, studying the two year A-Level with AQA. Equally, A-Level Economics is a two year course following the AQA syllabus, with two classes in both Years 12 and 13. The Year 13 vocational students are studying CTEC Level 3 Business, whilst the Year 12 students are studying the new BTEC Level 3 Business course. Again, each year we have two classes, offering both the single and double award. OCR CTEC Level 2 Business is also offered to those students taking the Level 2 pathway.

Our mission is to be a school which inspires and encourages the highest achievement for each and every child. I believe that our school provides the correct balance and blend of academic challenge, personal care and enrichment that fosters the holistic development of each and every student.

The quality of teaching and learning at our school enables us to achieve our aim to help every student to develop into the very best they can be: to be independent in their thinking, to value lifelong learning, to be open to new ideas, to encourage respect and tolerance. Our results speak for themselves: our GCSE results are outstanding with overall achievement recognised as SIG+ in RAISEonline.

The care and guidance offered at our school by the outstanding staff provide a culture and ethos, based on Christian values, which successfully help every child feel safe, happy and challenged. Our pupils are a delight to teach with OfSTED grading us Outstanding for behaviour and safety.
