Background

TheGrassfieldHighSchoolBandParentsAssociationScholarshiphasbeenestablishedbythe GrassfieldHighSchoolBandParentsAssociationtoannuallyrecognizehighschoolgraduates enrolledorparticipatinginbandrelatedactivitiesatGrassfieldHighSchool.Colorguardis includedandsynonymouswiththewordingof"band"inthisdocument.

ScholarshipAward

Thenumberandamountofthescholarshipswillbedeterminedeachyearby the ExecutiveCommitteeoftheGrassfieldHighSchoolBandParentsAssociation.This year,therewillbefour(4)scholarshipsoffivehundred($500.00)dollarsawardedto exemplarystudents.Duringthefirstsemesterofthefreshmanyear,adepositwillbe madeintherecipient’saccountatthecollegeoruniversityinwhichhe/sheisenrolled andattends.Proofofcollegeacceptanceandcommitmentmustbeprovidedpriorto distributionofthescholarshipmoney.

Thescholarshipmoneyistobeusedfortuitionandrequiredfees.

Eligibility

TobeeligibleforaGrassfieldHighSchoolBand ParentsAssociationScholarshipastudentmustmeet thefollowingrequirements:

Currentlyenrolledandparticipatinginbandprogramsduringsenioracademicyear.

Participateforaminimumoftwoconsecutiveyearsinorganizedbandprograms.

Completetheirsenioryearofhighschoolwithsufficientcreditstograduateintheyearof thescholarshipaward.

Possessacumulativenon-weightedgradepointaverageof3.0orhigherona4.0scale.

CopyofTranscriptthroughthefirstsemesteroftheirsenioryearisrequired.

Hasdemonstratedbothacademicandmusical/performanceexcellenceduringhisorher careeratGrassfieldHighSchool.

Hasdemonstratedleadershipinthebandorganizationsandpromotedexcellenceby positivelyworkingwithbanddirectors,leadersandotherstudents.

BeacitizenorlegalresidentoftheUnitedStates.

Mustbeacceptedtoandattendanaccreditedtwoorfour-yearcollegeoruniversity duringthefalltermoftheyearoftheaward.

  • Must be current with all GrassfieldHighSchool Band ParentsAssociation financial obligations.

SelectionCriteria

Applicantswillbeevaluatedonthestrengthoftheiracademicperformance,participationinband relatedactivitiesduringtheirentirecareeratGrassfieldHighSchool,musical/performance excellence,leadershipwithinthebandprogram,apersonalessayandtwo(2)lettersof recommendation.

SelectionProcedure

AllcompletedapplicationsmustbesubmittedtotheChairmanoftheGrassfieldHighSchoolBand ParentsAssociationScholarshipCommitteeatthefollowingaddress:807 Keeling Drive, Chesapeake,VA23322. Applicantsshallsubmittheirapplicationsinasealedenvelope postmarkednolaterthanApril27, 2018.,inordertobereviewedagainsttheprogramcriteria administeredthroughtheGrassfieldHighSchoolBandParentsAssociationScholarship Committee.Inadditiontomailingtheapplication,participantsshallemailtheirentireapplication totheChairmanatbyApril 27, 2018..A"receivedapplication" emailwillbe sentbacktotheparticipant.Submissionofthisapplicationisnecessaryforyoutobe consideredforascholarship,butisnotaguaranteethatyouwillreceiveone. Scholarship awardeeswillbenotifiedinwritingandannouncedatthespringawardsceremony. Duetothe largenumberofforms,weregretwecannotnotifythosewhoarenotselectedforascholarship.  Essay:Besuretoincludeatypedpersonalstatementofupto750wordsexpressinghow yourhighschoolbandexperiences,bandcompetitionsandperformances,musicrelated extracurricularactivities,andothersignificantactivitieshavepreparedyouforcollege. DiscusshowyouhavebeenapositiveinfluenceinthebandprogramatGrassfieldHigh Schoolandhowyourimpacthasaddedtothesuccessoftheprogram.Pleasediscuss

whyyoushouldbeconsideredforthisscholarship,andanyotherpertinentinformation youwishtosharethatmaybeofimportancetotheselectioncommitteeintheirreviewof yourapplication.

Recommendations:Includetwolettersofrecommendationfromanappropriatehigh schoolteachers,administrators,musicteachers,or musicprofessionalswhohavedirect knowledgeofyourmusicalabilities,leadership,characterandcommitmenttotheband programatGrassfieldHighSchool.Thepersonswritingtherecommendationsmustsign thedocumentandgiveittothestudentinasealedenvelopewiththestudent’snameon the outsideoftheenvelope.Toavoidtheappearanceofpartialityorbias,theGrassfield HighSchoolBandDirectors,ColorGuardDirectors,BoardMembersandScholarship CommitteeMembersshallnotwritealetterofrecommendationforthisscholarship.
