FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

  1. What is the difference between being Welsh domiciled and living here for study purposes?

To be Welsh domiciled your residency in Wales must be ‘habitually, normally and lawfully resided in that area from choice’. This is your permanent home address and not the town/city you moved to for the purpose of study.

  1. I have not received an email but I think I am eligible for a bursary. What should I do?
  • Check your home email and correspondence accounts and check your spam/junk email folder.
  • If you have definitely not received an offer, check whether you are eligible:
  • Have you accepted your offer? If not, please return your signed acceptance to immediately
  • If you fulfil all eligibility criteria and have accepted your offer of a place, please contact with your full name, course and student number. Admissions staff will undertake a thorough review of your data and advise you of the outcome.
  1. How do I apply for the Bursary?

There is no application process; the Admissions Office will contact candidates we think are eligible by email. If you have not received an email and think you are eligible for a Bursary, please contact

  1. Is my chosen course eligible?

You must have been made an offer for one of the following courses commencing in September 2018: MA, MSc, LLM, MRes, MPhil, MA by Research and MSc by Research. Bursaries are available for full and part-time study, but please note that three year part-time courses are only eligible where no full-time equivalent programme exists. A list of eligible three year courses can be found at:

  1. Will I be liable for tuition fee payment if I accept my offer now but withdraw the acceptance prior to enrolment?

No. You will not have to pay tuition fees until you formally enrol as a student at Swansea University. Therefore, if you accept our offer and change your mind prior to enrolment, we can withdraw/cancel your acceptance and you will not be liable for tuition fees.

  1. I have received an offer for a Welsh Government Bursary but I don’t know whether to accept it. If I wait until 15 July deadline, will you hold the Bursary for me?

Yes, as long as you accept the offer of the Bursary by 15 July and meet any conditions of your offer and eligibility criteria, you will receive the Bursary. However, after 15 July, bursaries will be offered to reserve candidates.

  1. I am not applying for a Welsh postgraduate loan. What evidence do I need to provide?

No. If you apply for a Welsh postgraduate loan, the Student Loan Company will undertake eligibility checks. Swansea University will be notified of candidates eligible for a loan by 31 August 2018.

  1. Can I defer my offer of a Bursary to 2019?

No. Bursaries cannot be deferred and it will be lost if you choose to start on an alternative date.

  1. I have received an offer for MSc Social Work. Am I eligible for a bursary?

You will not be eligible if you have been awarded a Social Work Bursary by Social Care Wales.
