Principle AimsSalary Grade 17

To provide administration support for the project which aims to ensure that deafblind and visually impairedadults can access the welfare rights advice and support they need to reduce the level of hardship they face in this period of welfare reform. To successfully undertake training that will support the individual to work towards becoming a qualified welfare rights officer.

The project will do this by; proactively making welfare advice available in a range of alternative formats, language-modify existing information to make the print version more accessible to those for whom English is a second language, to those who use sign language, and to those whose visual impairment means they require minimal amounts of information to be provided.

The project will have an ongoing training programme to keep up to date with any changes in the benefits system and to gain maximum knowledge to pass on to sensory impaired people.

Those who are marginalised by the difficulties they experience in accessing information will be greatly assisted by this project which will make information much more accessible to them. This projectaims to support over 200 deafblind and visually impaired adults across Scotland.

The postholder will be responsible to the Project Leader.

Main tasks and responsibilities

  1. Provide general administrative support to the project, including word processing of letters, mailouts, reports etc.
  1. Research information as required.
  1. File information as required and keep files up to date.
  1. Maintain databases, records and report as required by Project Leader
  1. Maintain a steady flow of information to the Project leader
  1. Co-ordinate bookings for training, meetings, venues and guide/communicators.
  1. Establish and ensure appropriate specialist communication support is in place for when required
  1. To be involved in the publicising of the project.
  1. Undertake and successfully complete identified training courses to support achieving the outcomes of the project.
  1. This post holder will ‘promote, establish and support other projects and programmes of a charitable nature for the benefit of individuals who are deafblind or visually impaired.
  1. Assist in the preparation of reports for the Board of Directors, SAGOD and any other funder.
  1. Assist in the maintenance of monitoring processes, reports and records

as required for the project.

  1. Provide appropriate and timely advice and advocacy support e.g. welfare benefit checks, claims assistance and advice on appeals on a one to one basis.
  1. Undertake any other appropriate tasks as required by the Project Leader.

Person Specification

The postholder will have:

  • The ability to communicate directly with deafblind/ dual sensory impaired people or to quickly learn this.
  • Knowledge of disability issues, in particular those relating to deafness/blindness/deafblindness.
  • The ability to organise time effectively & to work on their own initiative.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills.
  • Good written and report writing skills.
  • Computing skills – highly proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Access, Excel etc).
